Learn more about us at https://www.hawkinsinc.com/careers/ ABOUT THE JOB Manages fleet compliance, safety, and equipment programs for a division of the company, ensuring adherence to Department of Transportation regulations and company policies. Responsibilities Takes personal accountability and leadership to support and continuously foster a workplace that promotes safety first for our co-workers, customers, communities and the environment. This includes following regulation and compliance standards set by government agencies. Develop and manage DOT compliance programs including driver qualification files, vehicle maintenance and inspection reports, hours of service regulations, and transportation of hazardous materials. May give work direction to other employees working on these tasks. Manages fleet including updating vehicle status change records, electronic logging device tracking and troubleshooting, and vehicle inspections and maintenance records. Participate in the investigations of incidents, injuries, and near misses to determine root cause and propose related initiatives or changes to prevent future incidents. Under the direction of the Logistics Manager, create and administer standard operating procedures to ensure the company is compliant with regulations, and following best practices. Conduct safety compliance and driver safety training. Identify areas for continuous improvement and implement solutions. Select and manage vehicle maintenance vendors, and proactively work to reduce company costs. Professionalism Treats others with dignity and respect. Develop audit schedules and procedures to ensure fleet compliance and to identify deficiencies and takes action by proposing and implementing solutions to rectify non-compliant behaviors. Works as a productive member of a cohesive group toward a common goal and contributes to team development. Demonstrates positive, constructive and professional communication with others - separates the issue from the person. Provide expert technical advice, coaching and guidance to management and employees on safety, compliance and best practices. Perform other miscellaneous related duties, as needed. ABOUT YOU Bachelor or Associate degree in transportation, logistics, fleet safety, or management; or equivalent years of experience strongly preferred but not required. Minimum of 7 years of experience in a transportation/fleet safety role; prior experience with chemical or oil & gas industries preferred. Currently holding a Class A or B CDL or prior relatable experience strongly preferred. Extensive knowledge of DOT regulations including hours of service regulations and roadside inspections. Previous experience in a union work environment preferred. Knowledge of FMCSA's CSA program and the BASIC scoring/measuring system. Experience in creating and establishing fleet policies and procedures. Experience managing multiple projects simultaneously and providing timely communica ions of progress to stakeholders within established timeframes. Ability to effectively work independently, as part of a team, and to build strong working relationships with other departments including all levels of management. Ability to accept and embrace change and energized by challenge. Effective problem-solving skills with a focus on customer service. Ability to think critically, to ask the right questions, separate facts from assumptions, and determine what is relevant and what is not in the decision-making and negotiating process. Excellent communication skills both written and verbal. Ability to identify potential risks and take preventive steps to mitigate those risks. Proficient with Microsoft Office and ability to learn new systems. Physical Requirements: Ability to sit, stand, bend, reach, ascend or descend stairs, and walk for extended periods of time in an office or manufacturing setting or outdoors, including areas where conditions may include odors, varying temperatures, humidity, and moderate levels of noise. Ability to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) such as a hard hat, safety glasses, gloves, protective footwear; additional PPE may be required for certain company facilities such as a respirator and chemical suit. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Must be able to work outdoors in both extreme heat and extreme cold for prolonged periods of time. TRAVEL Frequent local travel required. Ref 2025-104 All applications must be received online.
