The Senior Manager, Financial Reporting position is in the Financial Reporting, Technical Accounting & SOX Governance group within the Controller’s Department of Southern California Edison (SCE). You will lead a group of professionals focused on ensuring all external reports and disclosures comply with applicable government regulations and professional standards. The position requires deep knowledge of U.S. Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) as well as the SEC reporting rules. This position also requires understanding and practical application of Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) accounting and reporting rules.

  • Provides strategic leadership to the Company’s external financial reporting team, with a focus on accuracy and timeliness of preparation of various financial reporting, such as: SEC Form 10, Form 10-Q, and Form 11-K, as well as various audited financial statements for trusts (e.g. nuclear decommissioning trusts) and benefit plans.

  • Drives continuous improvements of the external reporting process, identifying opportunities for optimization and implements enhancements to streamline reporting processes, ensure quality and improve efficiency.

  • Serves as a go-to subject matter expert in SEC financial reporting and US GAAP. Proactively navigates complex reporting matters by building an understanding of the business and proposing solutions that leverage deep knowledge of accounting guidance, and SEC’s views, such as through researching comment letter trends. Establishes corresponding disclosure and accounting policies if applicable.

  • Leads quarterly external reporting disclosure meeting with the senior leadership team. Proposes key disclosure messages and obtains alignment by drawing upon an understanding of key business objectives and initiatives, progress and status of key regulatory proceedings, as well as SEC reporting requirements.

  • Leads adoption of new pronouncements and regulations from standard setters (such as SEC, FASB) that impacts financial reporting. Leads cross-functional efforts and takes responsibility for such implementation efforts. Coordinates with other business units in relation to SEC financial reporting and various financial reporting under Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC). Appropriately represents compliance with policies and standards to corporate management and regulatory bodies.

The Essentials

  • Five or more years of experience supervising a team of direct reports and/or project management in the field of accounting.

  • Strong technical/general accounting experience interpreting and applying generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).

  • Experience with various types of Securities and Exchange Commission reporting (SEC).

  • Professional accounting qualification (CPA or international equivalents) active or inactive.

The Preferred

  • Bachelor's or higher degree in Accounting, Business, Finance, or related field.

  • Experience in a public accounting firm (preferably with a Big 4 firm) with large SEC clients.

  • Familiar with tools such as, Workiva, SAP ECC, SAP S/4, SAP BPC.

  • Experience applying accounting principles outlined in the FERC Uniform System of Accounts (USoA).

  • Strong quantitative and analytical skills combined with proven business and financial understanding.

  • Experience in energy/utility industry.

  • This position’s work mode is hybrid. The employee will report to an SCE facility for a set number of days with the option to work remotely on the remaining days. Unless otherwise noted, employees are required to reside in the state of California. Further details of this work mode will be discussed at the interview stage. The work mode can be changed based on business needs.
