You have contributed to the discovery processes with collaborators to identify the business requirements and the expected outcomes. You have supported teams to provide data engineering and automation solutions for these requirements. You provide sustainable solutions, following standards and best practices to support maintainability.

You are a self-starter, capable of recognizing inefficiencies and recommending improvements. You have engineered creative solution to business problems or manual processes to create operational efficiencies. Often you are able to identify the problems to work on independently and provide justification through data metrics. Overall, you are a strong partner to the business, understanding and prioritizing work based on the insight it can provide to impact SCE positively and directly in a fast paced yet sometimes ambiguous environment all while having the ability to triage contending needs under tight timeframes.

Responsibilities will include working closely with SCE’s IT Telecommunications teams to develop high quality data and automation solutions for our clients to drive significant improvement for the customer. This will include helping formulate and driving our evolving strategy on how to best support our clients on data analytics and automation delivery initiatives. You will help to increase staff's knowledge of data engineering and automation capabilities.

You will develop data pipelines, performing extract, transform, load functions. You will be support driving data analytic solutions with this data to achieve business outcomes. You will deliver automation solutions to drive operational efficiencies using application development, scripting, and traditional network and infrastructure automation tooling such as Ansible.

You will keep abreast of new and current technologies in the data engineering and network and infrastructure automation fields. You will research methods, techniques, and new practices. Develop relationships with individuals at other utilities and participate in relevant industry forums and groups. Develop relationships with external data and analytics vendors and interact with as needed

The essentials

  • Five (5) or more years of experience in data engineering, automation, devops, scripting, and application development.

  • Experience in data engineering, data mining, large scale data acquisition, transformation, and cleaning both structured and unstructured data.

  • Experience and general knowledge about telecommunications environments including transport, data network, and firewall technologies.

  • Experience supporting and working with cross-functional teams in a dynamic environment.

  • Strong communication skills and ability effectively present information to analytics/data experts, business leaders, and management to assess opportunities and develop data driven solutions.

  • Experience translating business objectives into data and analytics solutions using appropriate data engineering, analytics, visualization & dashboard applications.

  • Experience and familiarity with Agile methodologies and tooling such as Jira.

The preferred

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science, Engineering, Artificial Intelligence, Applied Mathematics, Econometrics, Statistics, Physics, or related field, or equivalent STEM major.

  • Experience and familiarity with Apache open source data engineering tools such as Airflow, Nifi, Spark, and Kafka.

  • Experience and broad understanding of the electric utility industry and its regulatory environment.

  • Experience and specialized understanding of one or more electric utility business areas such as IT, Customer Service, or Transmission & Distribution.

  • Experience with GenAI and Large Language Models and their components such as RAG.

You should know

  • This position’s work mode is hybrid . The employee will report to an SCE facility for a set number of days with the option to work remotely on the remaining days.  Unless otherwise noted, employees are required to reside in the state of California.  Further details of this work mode will be discussed at the interview stage. The work mode can be changed based on business needs.

  • This position has been identified as a NERC/CIP impacted position - Prior to being hired, the successful candidate must pass a Personnel Risk Assessment (PRA) or Background Investigation. Once hired, the candidate must complete specified training prior to gaining un-escorted access to assigned work location and performing necessary job duties.
