Health Resources and Services Administration Supervisory IT Specialist, Desktop Engineer - PD24R038-Office of Information Technology in Rockville, Maryland

Summary This position is located in the Health Resources and Services Administration, Office of Operations, Office of Information Technology, Division of End User Support, Desktop Engineering Branch. The duty location for this position is in Rockville, MD and is not eligible for remote work. Responsibilities This position is a mission critical occupation and is responsible for the analysis of system and/or security requirements, the development and implementation of mission critical applications for the agency's Information Technology operations. Major Duties: As a Supervisory IT Specialist, Desktop Engineer you will be overseeing and directing a team of information technology specialists and engineers to provide high quality Tier 3 support for the Desktop Support team (Tier 1 and 2); implementing policies, procedures, and systems to streamline Tier 3 support operations. Your major duties and responsibilities include: Identifying and implementing process improvements with a strong emphasis on automation to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the team. Ensuring processes are in place to maintain the IT security of DEUS managed devices and systems, and that vulnerabilities and risks are identified and mitigated promptly. Coordinating vulnerability remediation for infrastructure including, but not limited to, desktop computers, printers, and software applications. Ensuring efficient and effective delivery of Tier 3 desktop support, management, and engineering. Maintaining security using Active Directory group policies to enforce secure configuration settings. QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: To qualify for this position, you must possess IT related experience and/or training that demonstrates that you possess each of the following four competencies: Attention to Detail - Is thorough when performing work and conscientious about attending to detail. Customer Service - Works with clients and customers (that is, any individuals who use or receive the services or products that your work unit produces, including the general public, individuals who work in the agency, other agencies, or organizations outside the Government) to assess their needs, provide information or assistance, resolve their problems, or satisfy their expectations; knows about available products and services; is committed to providing quality products and services. Oral Communication - Expresses information (for example, ideas or facts) to individuals or groups effectively, taking into account the audience and nature of the information (for example, technical, sensitive, controversial); makes clear and convincing oral presentations; listens to others, attends to nonverbal cues, and responds appropriately. Problem Solving - Identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information; uses sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, and to make recommendations. AND In addition to the above OPM requirements, in order to qualify for these positions, your resume must clearly demonstrate that you have one full year of minimum qualifying specialized experience comparable in difficulty and responsibility to the grade levels listed below in the federal service. MINIMUM QUALIFYING SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE is experience that has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position and is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. To be creditable, an applicant's one full year of specialized experience must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary for successful job performance. GS-14: Your resume must clearly demonstrate that you have one full year of the minimum qualifying specialized experience comparable in difficulty and responsibility to at least the GS-13 level in the federal service. Examples of the minimum qualifying specialized experience equal to the GS-13 level include the following types of tasks performed on a regular and recurring basis: Providing technical direction and guidance on server and desktop operating systems, along with associated services, such as Active Directory or Exchange, to resolve issues related to operating systems, network connectivity and associated services. AND Installing and configuring desktops to meet the needs of an organization by setting up software and applications, configuring network settings, and managing hardware and peripherals. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; community; student; social). If such experience is on a part-time basis, you must provide the average number of hours worked per week as well as the beginning and ending dates of the experience so it can be fully credited. DESKTOP ENGINEERING - Knowledge of the principles, methods, or tools for ensuring that desktops are installed, configured, and maintained to meet the needs of an organization including setting up software and applications, configuring network settings, and managing hardware and peripherals. INFORMATION SYSTEMS SECURITY - Ensures the confidentiality, integrity, availability, reliability, and non-repudiation of the organization's information contained in and transmitted from systems and networks by implementing security laws, regulations, policies, standards, and control techniques.
