Job Description

As the Supervisor, Plant/Site, you will have the opportunity to lead all aspects of daily activities in a cold-chain, bio banking, repository operation within our Fisher BioServices business unit. You will be responsible for ensuring detailed operations of the repository and the storage and shipment of biological materials. Your shown leadership skills will be essential in supervising and providing regular feedback to employees, identifying training needs, and maintaining a high level of knowledge and compliance with laws, regulations, and company policies.

What Will You Do?

  • Lead client pulls and shipping requests

  • Supervise and provide regular feedback to employees, including mid-year and annual reviews

  • Identify training needs and provide and/or coordinate training for employees

  • Participate in operational planning, repository task assignment, and budgetary discussions

  • Prepare and update Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Standard Work Instructions (SWIs)

  • Ensure employees follow standard operating procedures, safety procedures, and quality control processes

  • Prepare monthly client reports and ensure accuracy

  • Investigate and assign investigations for deviations and customer complaints

  • Work with employees, upper-level management, and external clients to resolve discrepancies and update inventory data

  • Supervise facility-related operations such as biological waste disposal and equipment logs

  • Ensure all operational materials, supplies, and needs are scheduled or ordered

  • Develop, maintain, and update client-specific databases

  • Ensure vital repository equipment is procured and scheduled for maintenance

  • Lead and participate in the after-hours on-call program

  • Other duties as assigned

How Will you Get There:

  • Knowledge of Universal Precautions, safe handling and disposal of biological materials

  • Certification in DOT and IATA regulations

  • Knowledge of quality assurance and control procedures

  • Excellent leadership, interpersonal, problem-solving, planning, and organizational skills

  • Knowledge of basic facility/operational functions

  • Knowledge of current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP) preferred

  • Knowledge of In-Trak, Nautilus, and TrackWise preferred

Education:

  • Equivalent experience accepted for High School diploma requirement

  • Bachelor's degree in a scientific field preferred; equivalent experience will also be considered!

Experience:

  • 4+ years of experience in a biological repository or similar environment

  • 4+ years of experience in inventory management

  • 1+ years of supervisory experience preferred

Work Conditions/Physical Requirements:

  • Work in a cold environment with exposure to dry ice, liquid nitrogen cryogenics, hazardous and infectious agents, marked changes in temperature

  • Use personal protective equipment and enforce safety protocols

  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs

  • Process and handle materials frozen on dry ice or liquid nitrogen

  • Work in walk-in freezers or refrigerators periodically

  • Use a computer up to 6 hours per day

  • Work in a laboratory and warehouse/repository environment

Compensation and Benefits

The salary range estimated for this position based in Maryland is $83,300.00–$125,000.00.

This position may also be eligible to receive a variable annual bonus based on company, team, and/or individual performance results in accordance with company policy. We offer a comprehensive Total Rewards package that our U.S. colleagues and their families can count on, which includes:
