Health First Senior Statutory Accounting & Reporting Analyst - Finance in Rockledge, Florida
POSITION SUMMARY:
To be fully engaged in providing Quality/No Harm, Customer Service and Stewardship by
providing superior quality, competitive value and outstanding service and is primarily concerned
with the analysis of statutory accounting records and reporting requirements related Health First
Health Plans, Inc. This position will be the subject matter expert on the complex application of
Statutory Accounting Principles (SAP) and detailed financial analysis of the statutory accounting
records. Additionally, this position will be required to communicate directly with leadership in an
effort to clearly lay out financial positions based on analysis of financial statements and
application of Statutory Accounting Principles (SAP), in compliance with the State of Florida
Office of Insurance Regulation. This position performs complex and detailed analysis of financial
indicators, and acts in advisory/reviewer capacity; making recommendations and decisions.
PRIMARY ACCOUNTABILITIES:
Engagement:
· Compile and review of the monthly GAAP to Statutory conversion adjustment process and
· review the monthly financial data, analyses and reconciliation.
· Make recommendations regarding the proper accounting of reserves, assets, and
· liabilities for various technical issues.
· Develops procedures and checklists to ensure timely filings.
· Prepare the company’s statutory filing on a quarterly and annual basis.
· Prepare monthly statutory entries and schedules for the Company’s activity.
· Prepare audit lead sheets, audit reconciliations, and calendar year end full disclosure
· statements for external statutory audit(s), including regulatory audit(s), as applicable.
· Review and approve journal entries as directed.
· Prepare and review audit schedules as directed.
· Review account reconciliations as directed.
· Provide explanations for variances.
· Mentors/Trains other Accounting Analysts.
· Maintains knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles, Statutory Accounting
· Principles, and keeps abreast of changes that her inherent in accounting regulations for
· reporting and compliance.
Quality/No Harm:
· Analyze and prepare preliminary, standard and adjusting journal entries assigned for key
· transactions/business units.
· Identify and research general ledger account variances.
· Ensure that statutory statements and notes are prepared accurately and timely.
· Support various financial audits.
Stewardship:
· Identify areas for efficiency improvements and provide Leadership with recommendations.
· Continuously seek to improve one’s work quality, efficiency and technical knowledge.
· Participate in projects identifying financial savings as directed.
Customer Experience:
· Respond timely and accurately to requests for information and reporting.
· Participate in special projects as required.
· Responsible for meeting the HFHP close deadlines and milestones.
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
· B.S. in business administration, finance, accounting, or related field, from an accredited college or university required.
· Prior experience and knowledge in the use of software packages, such as PeopleSoft, Microsoft Excel, Word, Access and Windows.
· Four to five years of relevant experience, preferably in the in health insurance accounting, required.
· Extensive knowledge of concepts, practices, and procedures of GAAP/Statutory Accounting.
· Possesses and applies fundamental accounting and financial concepts necessary to analyze financial position of the organization.
· Time management and priority setting skills
· Possess excellent analytical and problem solving skills.
· Possess strong computer abilities and communication skills.
· Demonstrates the ability to relate well with all customers and peers.
· Ability to prioritize and organize to maximize quality, value, and service.
· Remain current on all financial regulations and standards.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
· Ability to travel to multiple locations, including all off-site locations.
· Able to sit and view computer screen for up to three hours at a time.
· Ability to occasionally stand, walk, use hands to handle or feel, and reach with hands and
· arms.
· Specific vision abilities include close vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
