University of Rochester Video Producer, ESM in Rochester, New York

Responsibilities

Position Summary:

The ESM Video Producer reports to the Director of Technology & Media Production, with dotted line reporting to the Director of Communications, and is responsible for developing, producing, directing, recording, and editing strategic, engaging, and informative video stories of the faculty, staff and students of the Eastman School of Music. This position supports a digital-first strategic communications plan, leveraging the latest video technologies and techniques, and adhering to best practices for major social channels. This position collaborates in designing and executing the future of Eastman's visual media infrastructure, working with the Director to make decisions based on artistic and analytical considerations to ensure long-term success. This position plays a vital role in shaping the future of music technology at Eastman by working closely with educational leaders to create content that prepares students to be versatile musicians, leaders, and innovators in a competitive music industry. This position is crucial to Eastman's strategic goal of becoming an internationally preeminent school of music.

Responsibilities:

Creative Contributions:

  • Meets & collaborates regularly with colleagues from across the institution to develop creative and engaging approaches to producing videos that enhance Eastman’s global brand and reputation.

  • Supports various departments with video-related projects

  • Creates high-quality, professional video for the purpose of introducing & promoting faculty/staff/students

  • Utilizes a variety of techniques/technology to produce both short and long-format 4K videos intended to capture the attention of the target audience.

Production:

  • Utilizes 4K filming, lighting, and audio recording skills to assist in a wide range of productions, including pre-screens, competition videos, multi-angle degree-recitals and Eastman ensemble performances both within Eastman's performance halls and off-site.

Content Management:

  • Manages digital media assets and templates, as well as a media archive with the necessary level of metadata to ensure search ability.

  • Provides support as needed to locate assets.

  • Leadership and Collaboration:

  • Serves as the video production expert at Eastman.

  • Collaborates with colleagues around the University to provide best practices and support creative ideation.

  • Assists colleagues in developing basic video production and editing skills.

  • Coordinates with other video producers at the University to share ideas, ensure projects are well-coordinated, and well-collaborated.

  • Packages and provides content for external media outlets and coordinates with outside producers on video support, as needed.

Management & Educational Technology Curriculum

  • Collaborates with academic leaders to create content designed to equip students with the skills necessary for their future careers as technology-savvy creative leaders blending analog and digital skillsets.

  • Works with the Associate Director of Educational Technology Services and the Eastman Media Lab to create an effective content creation studio for training student staff and aligning with new curriculum initiatives.

  • Designs team structure and oversees student workers to assist with all elements of production.

Other assigned duties

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in English, film/video production, or related discipline required.

  • 3 years of professional experience film/video production, video journalism, higher education, similar field or equivalent combination of education and experience required.

  • 5 years of professional experience in communications, film/video production, video journalism, higher education, or similar field required.

  • Experience with advanced multimedia storytelling techniques on multiple platforms and high command of video techniques through sophisticated craftsmanship required.

  • Exceptional core video-storytelling skills, including a deep understanding of composition, sound, camera, lights, computers, and software necessary to produce visual and audio journalism is required.

  • Studio and location filming experience, with a strong emphasis on lighting and audio capture skills required.

  • Competency in videography principles - from scripting through final editing - and an ability to show proficiency with branding guidelines.

  • A team player who can think on their feet and offer smart, creative solutions is key required.

  • Strong combination of technical, creative, and problem-solving skills related to the practice of video content creation and marketing required.

  • Knowledge of video’s role as part of a comprehensive content strategy, including search engine optimization, social media, and video content marketing required.

  • Ability to manage many projects at different stages of production with a high degree of confidence; excellent organizational skills required.

  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with clients, and a general understanding of the higher education environment required.

  • Ability to act as in-house expert and consultant on all matters related to videography techniques, equipment, programs, and processes required.

  • Ability to work individually and contribute as a creative team member required.

  • Demonstrated experience with motion graphics preferred.

Pay Range

Pay Range: $60,431 - $84,603 Annual

The referenced pay range represents the minimum and maximum compensation for this job. Individual annual salaries/hourly rates will be set within the job’s compensation range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations.
