Job Responsibilities:

Event Management:

  • Assists in organizing and managing events for the competitive sustainability center, which includes on- and off-campus events

  • Handles logistics for international travel (flights, hotel, etc.) as part of the ASEAN project

  • Helps support faculty/student (international or local) activities for the annual on-campus summer sustainability experience

Marketing and Management of Competitive Sustainability Center (CSC):

  • Serves as liaison between PIs affiliated with CSC and the CSC.

  • Recruits and supports PIs and organizations interested in working with or affiliating with the center

  • Promotes and markets the center’s activities through the center’s website, social media, and other available platforms, both locally and internationally. Collaborates with program personnel, as well as central marketing and communications, to design marketing materials and manage CSC’s social media accounts.

Administrative tasks:

  • Assists with procurement, reimbursements, journal entry, vendor management, Independent Contractor setup, and other tasks performed through PaymentWorks and Oracle

  • Organizes meetings and manages the principal investigator’s calendar and other project-related activities

  • Hires and supervises 2-20 student employees

Grant Proposal Writing: Seeks out and pursues other grant opportunities in support of the center’s focus and assists with the writing of the proposal

Reporting: Assists in preparing quarterly reports and documents required by the sponsor

Required Qualifications:

Education/Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience

  • 1 year experience working with international organizations

Other requirements: Availability to work off-hours to accommodate live video meetings with focal country institutions. The need to travel may arise, but the decision to travel is at the discretion of the employee.

Skills:

  • Experience working in higher education and international organizations

  • Strong reasoning skills, possess an astute understanding of the nature of higher education, and possess initiative, creativity, foresight, and diplomacy

The Competitive Sustainability Center (CSC) at RIT's Saunders College of Business is a leader in promoting sustainable economic growth by identifying and implementing sustainability strategies that provide a competitive advantage, as defined by the United Nations. The CSC collaborates with businesses, nonprofits, and government agencies to foster these strategies across various sectors. Notably, the CSC has established a strong presence in the ASEAN and Middle East regions, partnering with over 50 institutions, including universities and business incubators. These collaborations focus on educating stakeholders on circular economy principles and fostering networks for circular entrepreneurship training, promoting sustainable business practices, economic development, and environmental stability. The Senior Program Specialist is an externally funded position responsible for some aspects of sponsored research activities, and reports to the program administrator for the U.S. Department of State ASEAN grant. These activities include partnering with the U.S. Department of State to build an alliance with universities, business incubators, and other training and educational entities across southeast Asia to facilitate the development of competitive circular-economy businesses. The research program specialist will provide support in managing events and promoting the Competitive Sustainability Center (CSC) locally and internationally. This position requires an organized person with experience working with international organizations.

The ASEAN grant funded by the U.S. Department of State aims to create as many successful circular economy entrepreneurs in the ASEAN region as possible, focusing on reducing e-waste.

The Senior program specialist will develop marketing materials and strategies for the competitive sustainability center and manage relationships with Principal Investigators (PIs) affiliated with the center, assist with event management for the center and ASEAN project-related activities, help facilitate contracts with local and international partners, and manage vendors through PaymentWorks, help with Procurement and process reimbursements, and help provide needed support. Occasional meetings with people in other time zones will require attendance at online meetings outside normal business hours. Excellent communication skills are essential for this position
