General Description

This position is responsible for the maintenance and safe operation of a pool. The incumbent trains and supervises Lifeguards and Pool Attendants. Work is performed under the direct supervision of a Recreation Center Director or other higher level recreational staff. Does related work as required.

CITY RESIDENCY WILL BE REQUIRED WITHIN ONE YEAR OF HIRE.

Typical Work Activities

  • Enforces sanitary and safety measures of the Health Department and the Bureau of Parks, Recreation & Human Services;

  • Supervises the maintenance of the pool, and, in the absence of the Engineer, provides routine maintenance;

  • Files health reports;

  • Keeps inventory, attendance, payroll and other records;

  • Supervises lifeguards, pool attendants and other pool staff;

  • Works as a lifeguard;

  • Renders first aid and resuscitation as necessary;

  • Trains employees in lifesaving and swimming techniques.

Minimum Qualifications

High School diploma or GED; PLUS EITHER:

  • Two (2) years experience supervising lifeguards and pool staff; OR

  • Three (3) years experience as a lifeguard.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENT:

  • Possession of a current Red Cross Water Safety Instructor Certificate or equivalent.

  • Possession of a Red Cross Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and First Aid Certificate or equivalent.
