University of Rochester Lead Business Administrator in Rochester, New York

GENERAL PURPOSE:

Reporting to the GCH Surgeon in Chief (SIC) with accountability to the GCH Chief Administrative Officer, the Lead Business Administrator will provide comprehensive support to the SIC in executing operational, functional, and business strategies. Under the direction of the SIC, this role will be pivotal in designing, implementing, and managing processes, programs, and policies essential for delivering high-quality pediatric perioperative care at GCH, identifying the strategic alignment of programs with organizational goals and initiating projects to accomplish overall program objectives. The Lead Business Administrator participates in planning for new and/or expansion of services, facility and capital planning, organizational operating budget and expense management, facility and equipment expansion projects, marketing, web and fundraising proposals. The ideal candidate will utilize specialized knowledge and skills to ensure operational effectiveness, with a focus on access, clinical quality and patient/family satisfaction.

This role may directly supervise a small staff, providing for their onboarding, training, development, and participating in the evaluation of their performance.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Operational & Financial Oversight:

  • Monitors operational and financial performance of pediatric surgical services, identifying and addressing emerging challenges and opportunities.

  • Supports the development of clinical and service quality improvement initiatives.

  • Coordinates cross-departmental processes for enhancing safety, access, and patient experience.

  • Assists in the preparation and management of operating and capital budgets.

  • Facilitates the development and tracking of key performance indicators and quality dashboards.

Program and Policy Development:

  • Develops and implements processes, programs, and policies to ensure operational effectiveness and excellence in pediatric surgical care.

  • Utilizes specialized knowledge to enhance clinical care, operational efficiency, and patient experience across GCH.

  • Creates and maintains tools such as dashboards to support evidence-based and patient-centered care delivery.

Strategic Leadership Support:

  • Collaborates with the SIC to develop and implement pediatric surgical services strategies aligned with GCH and URMC strategic plans.

  • Assists in the creation and monitoring of long-range strategic plans and annual financial, capital, and operational plans.

  • Facilitates the development and maintenance of relationships with regional and community stakeholders.

  • Supports the recruitment and retention processes for surgical leadership and clinical staff.

  • Aids in the evaluation and implementation of new healthcare technologies and care delivery models.

Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree required

  • Master's degree preferred

Required:

  • 8 years of progressive experience fiscal and resource management, clinical and quality operations (in a large, complex healthcare environment preferred)

  • Demonstrated success as a leader with progressive experience relevant to managing budgets, developing business proposals, and analyzing practice trends

  • Or equivalent combination of education and experience

  • Strong strategic leadership skills with the ability to build consensus and navigate a diverse group of stakeholders.

  • Proven ability to formulate operational strategies, guide the development of operating plans, and drive performance to achieve goals.

  • Effective at managing complex and multiple projects in a fast-paced environment required.

  • Exceptional communication (written, oral, presentation) skills

Pay Range

Pay Range: $86,482 - $129,723 Annually

The referenced pay range represents the minimum and maximum compensation for this job. Individual annual salaries/hourly rates will be set within the job’s compensation range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations.
