University of Rochester Lab Clinical Support Tech IV in Rochester, New York

Responsibilities

Position Summary:

The Laboratory Senior Technician, under the direction of the Operations Coordinator and Supervisors, oversees and coordinates the flow of specimens throughout the laboratory. Provides technical supervision of section and accountable for the professional conduct and technical performance of personnel within area.

Job Duties:

  1. Holds staff accountable for the accurate and timely completion of assigned activities (20%)

  2. Monitors employees’ performance and department TAT’s. Investigates and reports suggestions for corrective action to operations coordinator and supervisors. (20%)

  3. Performs troubleshooting as needed; to include missing samples and follow up on problems (20%)

  4. Participates in QA initiatives. Collects shift data required for QA monitors (10%)

  5. Ensures that staff follow laboratory policies and procedures, including safety and security (5%)

  6. Completes action logs, preventative maintenance logs and pending lists daily (10%)

  7. Continuously assesses work processes and makes suggestions to supervisor for improved work methods and ways to increase efficiency, reduce costs, and solve operational problems (2%)

  8. Assumes responsibility for defining priorities during extraordinary situations (i.e. sick calls, safety and security incidents, emergency-“disaster” situations). (2%)

  9. Works with supervisory team and laboratory staff to plan for and accomplish departmental and organizational goals and objectives. Promotes and supports a positive team environment within the department. (5%)

  10. Participates in evaluating employees. Discusses and documents promptly any personnel issues with the appropriate supervisor. (2%)

  11. Communicates policies and procedures and monitors compliance (2%)

  12. Participates in regularly scheduled meetings with operations coordinator and supervisors (2%)

  7. Professional discretion with confidential patient results.

Qualifications:

Education/Experience:

  • AS and one (1) year laboratory experience preferred, or

  • Two (2) years Laboratory Science and technical training closely related to this position, or

  • A combination of formal training and experience equivalent to the above

Pay Range

Pay Range: $ 20.57 - $ 27.78 Hourly

The referenced pay range represents the minimum and maximum compensation for this job. Individual annual salaries/hourly rates will be set within the job’s compensation range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations.
