Function of Position:
This is a grant-funded 10-month position. It will begin in the Fall 2023 and continue until December 2026. This opportunity is eligible for paid time off and benefits.
The Nursing Success coach supports the mission and philosophy and program learning outcomes of the Department of Nursing at Monroe Community College. They assist prelicensure nursing students with developing the knowledge, skills, and behaviors of the
professional registered nurse. These topics include but are not limited to: academic goal setting, individual learning styles and study strategies, time management, test-taking strategies, nursing skills, and career coaching. They may lead individual or group
sessions for nursing students. The nursing success coach will work to connect students with academic, social and career supports through advising and referral to college and community resources.
This role requires frequent engagement with students and provides additional academic support to improve retention and academic success through course and program and increased licensure pass rates.
Examples of Duties & Responsibilities:
Develop & maintain knowledge of the current program curriculum and develop familiarity with course resources
Coordinate and implement strategies to support student success and retention
Work collaboratively with Faculty, Technical Assistant (T.A.) and Nursing Learning Center (NLC) Coordinator
Demonstrate current, detailed and accurate knowledge of concepts tested by NCLEXRN as well as currency in nursing practice
Demonstrate knowledge of Next Generation NCLEX examinations changes
Provide academic coaching to nursing students, individually and in groups as appropriate
Maintain accurate detailed records of student attendance and participation
Maintain open communication with course faculty regarding student progress
Provide skill remediation and skill practice in the nursing lab
Assist students in applying nursing concepts and clinical judgement related to course content
Work with students to examine their learning styles, study habits, information retention and barriers to success
Enhance students' awareness of requirements for achieving academic success and assist them in developing new strategies to support learning
Meet with LPN students admitted at least once a semester to provide mentoring and academic support
Coordinates appropriate student referrals to college and community services
Provide student workshops (e.g., test-taking, study skills, time management, stress and anxiety reduction, campus resources etc.)
Build a library of resources that may be shared with students and faculty
Perform other duties and responsibilities assigned by the department chair
Ensure compliance with legal aspects of operation of NLC
Promote and participate in creating an atmosphere of service to faculty, staff and students

Job Requirements:
Required Qualifications:
Earned B.S.N. from a regionally accredited higher education institution
Current unencumbered New York State RN license
Ability to interact and communicate effectively with faculty, other departments, staff, and students
Evidence of strong organizational and leadership skills.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively
Proficiency with a variety of software including Microsoft Office and online resources required
Aptitude to develop competence with a wide range of clinical equipment/technology encountered in the healthcare environment required
Competence with use of educational technology required
Knowledge of coaching, instructional and mentoring techniques
2+ years recent experience in an academic setting
Preferred Qualifications:
Earned M.S. in nursing from a regionally accredited higher education institution
Bilingual and able to read, write, and speak Spanish, or other languages, proficiently
Additional Information:
Salary: Salary is determined based on experience, internal equity and college budget. This position has a range of $48,000-$55,000 and is based on these mentioned factors.
