University of Rochester Cafe Associate III in Rochester, New York

GENERAL PURPOSE:

Works closely in a supervisory role with staff members, overseeing schedule, monitoring productivity, and providing feedback to ensure that the staff are providing the best experience possible to the patients/customer. Will be responsible for the daily operations of the café.

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Interviews, hires, train and supervise café staff. Prepares schedules. Assures appropriate daily staffing for areas of responsibility in the event of a staff member being sick or absent.

  2. Audit time reporting and associated record keeping. Builds culture through staff recognition.

  3. Evaluates performance. Performs disciplinary action. Conducts routine operational meetings with employees. Schedules employees for, conducts and attends in-service programs, as appropriate.

  4. Resolve customer patient/customer complaints regarding food quality and customer service. Identify strategies to retain and attract customers.

  5. Responsible for inventorying, ordering, receiving and proper storage and handling of all products. Forecasts and orders food and supplies from external purveyors for AO Café menus and retail using both manual and computer systems.

  6. Assures that adequate food supplies are received (or appropriate alternate arrangement are made) in a timely manner while controlling food waste.

  7. Ensure food health and safety regulations are adhered to. Assure that sanitation requirements, quality standards and department goals are met. Must be Serv-Safe certified.

  8. Participates in collecting quality control and quality assurance data to meet requirements of New York State Department of Health, JCAHO and departmental standards.

  9. Examples: food scale reliability, recipe yields and taste, food and equipment temperature maintenance, accuracy of supply assembly, appropriateness of portion sizes.

  10. Coordinates maintenance of food service equipment in the main kitchen Handles food-service related problems that are not solved by the usual procedures or timeliness.

Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.

  • Hospitality, café or restaurant experience required or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Demonstrate exemplary leadership skills;

  • Ability to multitask;

  • Excellent customer service.

  • Serv-Safe Certification preferred.

Pay Range

Pay Range: $16.92 - $23.69 Hourly

The referenced pay range represents the minimum and maximum compensation for this job. Individual annual salaries/hourly rates will be set within the job’s compensation range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations.
