Business Development Officer

Summary Purpose for the Position:

Development of small and micro-businesses to encourage entrepreneurship, create jobs and strengthen local communities through provision of financial services, marketing, outreach and technical assistance.

Requirements (Education, Experience, Certification, Knowledge, Skill):

Bachelor's degree and three years experience in economic development, banking or another area of business financing.

Knowledge of the principles of credit underwriting, financial analysis, marketing, business management; understanding of the methods of financing business development.

Ability to read, analyze and evaluate financial statements, projections, business plans to formulate a comprehensive picture of the financial condition of a business.

Ability to apply knowledge of PathStone goals and mission to economic development; ability to apply knowledge of business management, marketing and accounting to the development of mid and long range plans for business. }

Expert written and verbal communication skills in the areas of presentation, negotiation, persuasion, interpretation, investigation.

Position Responsibilities:

Identify potential repayment problems.

Analyze financial statements and projections, perform credit underwriting on loan applications.

Review credit history, collateral, personal financial statements and proposed uses of funds.

Prepare credit memoranda for presentation to Economic Development Advisory Committee to recommend acceptance or denial of loan requests.

Prepare and carry out marketing plans to extend PathStone network of referral sources, including oral and written presentations;

Maintenance of contact with "network" of referral sources; conduct of training workshops and seminars.

Provide staff support to programs operated by PathStone under contract with other entities.

Servicing of loan portfolio (review of collateral, updating of lien filings.

Maintenance of data bases, coordination of loan closings, contact with/reporting to funding sources.

Position develops formal training materials for business owners, entrepreneurs, networking organizations and Board Members.

Responsible for provision of technical assistance including interpretation of program regulations and eligibility guidelines.

Interface and participate in training, education and public initiatives.

Working Conditions/Environment:

Requires some day and overnight travel, some flexible work hours, remote work flexibility.

Transportation Requirement:

Position requires automobile, driver’s license and insurance.
