Responsibilities
Job Description:
The UR Breastfeeding Medicine Lactation Technician will work in-person with lactation consultants, breastfeeding medicine specialists and patients to support the mission of UR Breastfeeding Medicine and URMC’s Lactation Services and Programs. Specifically, this person will:
Back up the secretary for answering phones for the lactation support line (warm line) and scheduling line for Breastfeeding Medicine clinics
For tongue-tie visits: set up and take down procedure, play video for families, check out patients in the room, provide education on occupational-therapy type exercises for tongue strengthening
Provide brief patient education over the phone and in-person during visits when requested by the Lactation Consultants or Breastfeeding Medicine specialists
Assist with rooming patients, including set up and take-down of rooms, vital signs on mothers and infants (along with pre- and post-feed weights), assist with infant procedures/care during visits, room cleaning
Help with inbasket messages for the Lactation Team along with the triage RN.
Build tongue tie packets and stock exam rooms with kits and emergency bleeding supplies
This position may require chaperoning of providers and Lactation Consultants (as needed) and safe milk handling (as needed)
Requirements
This is a full time, in person position
Ability to work in teams
Excellent communication skills
Able to interact smoothly with digital interfaces, spreadsheets and electronic medical records
Specific Qualifications sought:
Understanding of the needs of mother/baby dyads and their support persons is required
4 year college degree, or 2 year technical degree preferred
Background in lactation care is required (CLC, IBCLC)
Work towards IBCLC is encouraged, support with education funding is offered.

Pay Range
Pay Range: $17.47 - $23.58 Hourly
The referenced pay range represents the minimum and maximum compensation for this job. Individual annual salaries/hourly rates will be set within the job’s compensation range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations.
