Responsibilities
In this capacity, the principal platform engineer will lead and direct the execution and delivery of all technical aspects of Mayo Clinic Platform’s technology roadmap, with a focus on AI Enablement. Working with the Director of AI Enablement, this team member will provide technical guidance around roadmap and timelines for the platform technology roadmap. Working closely with the assigned Mayo IT Technical Architect, the Principal Platform Engineer will also serve as a technical liaison with other functions within the enterprise.
The position will be responsible for the following essential functions:
Applies the principles of well-architected frameworks to the design, development and deployment of key foundational functions within Mayo Clinic Platform.
Develops, builds, and supports highly complex AI enablement systems and/or functions related to the supportability, maintainability, and extensibility of Mayo Clinic Platform.
Acts as a key liaison in designing and deploying configuration to onboard new solutions to the platform with a mind to standardize configurations for reusability.
Acts as a mentor and coach for other technical team members within Mayo Clinic Platform, supporting technical growth and systems based thinking.
Works closely with the data and solutions teams to understand opportunities and assist with the integration to the platform as well as develop repeatable mechanisms such that single-use integrations are minimized.
Partners with the solutions and implementation/support team to design, develop and deploy management and support tooling for all aspects of the platform’s operations. This may include things like monitoring/surveillance tools, access and utilization logging.
Supports and advises the execution of the Mayo Clinic Platform Technical roadmap.
Partners with Mayo Clinic IT, Mayo Clinic Cloud and Center of Digital Health to continue to leverage the growing capabilities within Mayo and apply them as needed within Mayo Clinic Platform.
Partners with Mayo Clinic IT groups to create unified, operational, and scalable platform capabilities.
In collaboration with the Mayo Clinic Platform product team, defines and implements proper Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) processes in sync with Product Development Life Cycle (PDLC) processes.
Contributes current knowledge and future vision of how technology and systems will enable business strategy, growth, and competitive positioning for Mayo Clinic Platform.
Completes rapid investigations into new and emerging technologies including assisting with configurations of Proofs of Concepts to identify new opportunities to extend and/or add efficiency to Mayo Clinic Platform.
Qualifications
Bachelors degree in a relevant information technology field or a minimum 10 years of direct full-stack engineering with increasing complexity or 5 years in a principal engineer capacity.
5+ years as a primary contributor to an AI-first technical project with multiple release cycles, preferably in the healthcare space
3-5 years project management, system architecture, and design.
3-5 years working in diverse environments utilizing Agile principles of software development.
Principal level experience with Hyperscale Cloud Environments and their configurations (Google preferred. AWS or Azure considered).
Experience with enterprise information security systems and application in a public cloud environment. Understanding of healthcare specific considerations such as HIPAA and HITRUST strongly desired.
Principal level experience in DevOps and CI/CD principles.
Experience directly delivering and supporting clinical systems.
Experience with cloud architecture, deployments, and management in an enterprise setting.
Experience with Interoperability standards such as HL7 and FHIR.
Experience with solutions integration/delivery in a healthcare setting.
Desired Characteristics:
Experience in driving and leading technology development and technical capability to guide strategically and manage resources.
Experience with technology change management specifically around SDLC end of life and feature migration processes.
Business acumen, to gauge not just what can be done but to know what can be completed cost effectively and sustainably.
This person must have the ability to promote and explain technology initiatives to business leaders outside of the technology organization and to external partners and customers.
The selected individual must combine a solid technical foundation with forward-looking strategic skills to help develop a Platform strategy to enable Mayo Clinic to capitalize on emerging technologies.
Ability to think beyond the technology itself and will understand key business drivers that ensure technology investment will provide substantial value or improvements to customers.
