Responsibilities

Facilitates care through discussing postmortem examination with legal next of kin and obtaining legal consent, utilizes Mayo Clinic electronic medical records systems for review and identification of medical examiner reportable criteria as required by Minnesota statute, works in laboratory information systems for documentation of deaths and postmortem examinations, coordinates transportation of decedent remains to the morgue, ensures all respective documentation is compliant with regulatory agencies and complete, and incorporates appropriate resources as necessitated. Prepares preliminary postmortem examination documentation, case accessioning, and decedent release documentation.

*Individuals hired to this position are required to complete 2 years in this position before becoming eligible to transfer to other positions within Mayo Clinic*

*This position is not eligible for visa sponsorship with the exception of the TN visa classification; Also, Mayo Clinic DOES NOT participate in the F-1 STEM OPT extension program*

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree required with two years of related experience is required. Preferred education in social sciences, mortuary science, medical technology, chemistry or biological science. Experience in handling sensitive subject matter and/or interacting with grieving families. Familiar with the institutional fetal and patient death policies and death packet requirements. Demonstrates excellent communication skills and is able to communicate with a variety of people in a direct, personable and articulate manner. Ability to convey a positive and professional attitude regarding the Office of Decedent Affairs and the department and to maintain a positive self-image through appearance and actions. Ability to troubleshoot processes through independent decision making. Able to work independently and collaboratively with a variety of individuals. Capable of performing under time constraints, multi-tasking and working in a changing environment.

  • Requires CV/Resume, cover letter, unofficial transcript(s), and for foreign trained lab personnel to provide a detailed equivalency evaluation to include US equivalent degree at the applicant's expense.

  • For international/foreign trained applicants, it is the responsibility of the international/foreign to provide to Mayo Clinic the following information. The applicant is responsible for the cost associated with obtaining the equivalency evaluation.

*DLMP employees that have been in current lab/position for less than 2 years must attach early release approval from supervisor

*Non-DLMP Internal applicants that have been in their current department/position for less than 1 year must attach early release approval from supervisor

Compensation Detail

$31.01 - $46.55 / hour; Education, experience and tenure may be considered along with internal equity when job offers are extended.

Schedule Details

Rotating 12 hour shifts to help with coverage. Guaranteed 48 hours per month but could pick up additional shifts if needed. Overnight coverage of at least 2 shifts per month expected.
