POSITION SUMMARY: The Material Specialist is responsible to ensure the correct number of materials for use are available, support the balance of supply and demand, and contribute to the organization s overall success by helping to mitigate supply chain disruptions across all departments. The Material Specialist will work with internal and external customers on managing quotes, issuing purchase orders, tracking inventory, and receiving and organization of incoming materials and equipment. PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES: Work closely with stakeholders outside of the organization, including suppliers of goods and services. Manage inventory levels, ensuring materials are in stock and reorder points are maintained. Facilitate the storage and transfer of materials and help maximize the use of space. Utilize procurement strategies that are innovative, cost-effective, and incorporate the growing complexities and challenges within the industry. Build collaborative and long-term relationships with vendors and critical suppliers in the industry. Assist the Manager, Procurement in the negotiation of contracts, terms and deadlines with suppliers and vendors. Utilize technological systems that track the shipment, inventory, and supply of materials. Establish and maintain purchasing parameters for critical materials for effective planning and buying operations. Oversee the disposal of surplus or obsolete materials in accordance with environmental and regulatory guidelines. Propose the orders of necessary goods and services for approval. Coordinate the receipt, inspection, and storage of materials, ensuring they meet quality standards and specifications. Supports all aspects of purchase order (PO) life cycle; including generation, order follow up and invoice management. Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
