Summary: Responsible for supporting the design and development of complex customer products by creating and maintaining PCB artwork, engineering drawings and associated documentation required for complex printed circuit board fabrication and assembly. Responsibilities: Focus on design and documentation for customer PCBAs and/or related tooling, resulting in a product or tooling that supports the manufacturing environment, if applicable, to meet both the customers' requirements and the Benchmark manufacturing support groups' requirements * Assist Benchmark's Manufacturing and Test work groups in developing and implementing Design for Manufacturability/Design for Test (DFM/DFT) techniques * Communicate technical challenges and work with peers to create and implement solutions * Communicate with customer technical personnel regarding technical issues * Contact and work with hardware, software and equipment vendors * Coordinate quoting and scheduling activities required to complete the PCB Design * Create new or modified designs for new or existing PCBAs * Develop an understanding of Design For Excellence (DFX) philosophy; Promote with customers * Develop and follow project plan; Report project status to leadership * Develop and maintain proficiency as an expert user of Benchmark's electronic CAD * Develop project proposals and associated cost estimates * Drive and coordinate CAD tool maintenance and upgrades, as required * Drive and coordinate process development and improvement * Generate schematics and documentation for manufacturability and testability, printed circuit board assembly and fabrication drawings * Interact with vendor to ensure proper fabrication of PCBs, test and tooling * Interface and communicate with internal and external customers regarding PCB project requirements, status, and facilitation * Make Engineering computations and write/edit specifications * Perform moderately complex to complex double sided and multi-layer printed circuit board design; Assist in the documentation and verification of the artwork * Process engineering change orders * Provide technical expertise on printed circuit board designs * Research and implement new and advanced CAD tools * Verify completed work, checking dimensions, materials to be used and quantities, per the verification plan * Work with customers to understand requirements regarding PCB design * Assist BEI Manufacturing and Test work groups in developing and implementing DFM/DFT techniques * Assist in the quoting and scheduling as required * Assist with research and implementation of new and advanced CAD tools * Develop and coordinate the design process, material selection, material availability, material costing and analysis for printed circuit board design and fabrication * Develop and maintain proficiency as an intermediate user of Benchmark's electronic CAD * Generate printed circuit board quotes as required * Provide team and project leadership * Provide research and development for complex design methods and tools * Report a summary and judgment of project financial information, resource loading/planning, financial forecast and coworker issues to Product Development Engineering Manager on a regular basis * Perform librarian functions for creating footprint libraries conforming to BEI's internal Design for Manufacturing (DFM)/ Design for Test (DFT) and customer guidelines * All employees are responsible for the Quality of their work to ensure BEI meets, or exceeds Customer Satisfaction. 2 year Design or Technical degree preferred or equivalent combination of education and experience as approved by executive management * 10+ years of drafting experience; 5+ years of experience using CAD * Ability to lead and mentor other Designers Position Qualifications: Demonstrate regular, consistent attendance; Ability to support an all shift production environment * Demonstrate confidentiality regarding Benchmark business related knowledge * Ability to perform sedentary work involving the use of a computer for six hours per day * Demonstrate the ability to work within the ECAD development and project teams * Demonstrate understanding of various advanced PCB technologies * Ability to travel up to 10-20% of the time, including day and/or overnight travel * Demonstrate day-to-day self-directed project activity organization in accordance with ECAD development procedures * Ability to make independent judgments using sound engineering principles and techniques * Demonstrate a strong knowledge of material selection for manufacturing customer PCBs * Demonstrate a strong understanding of PCB design and fabrication methods to creatively and efficiently design PCB solutions for customers based on various applications and technologies. * Demonstrate a thorough understanding of electronics principles * Demonstrate ability to assemble and present technical presentations in support of technology exchange * Demonstrate ability to create and check others detailed drawings of PCB design and components using industry standard drafting practices * Demonstrate effective communication skills, both written and verbal * Demonstrate effective interpersonal skills * Demonstrate effective problem solving skills * Demonstrate effective use of Computer Aided Drafting (CAD) software and computer hardware * Demonstrate excellent mathematical, analytical and drafting skills * Demonstrate knowledge of PCB design techniques * Demonstrate strong problem solving skills and the ability to make sound technical decisions * Demonstrate thorough understanding of advanced PCB technologies * Intermediate knowledge of word processing and spreadsheet applications * See job analysis forms for specific physical stresses of the job Education: 2 year Design or Technical degree preferred or equivalent combination of education and experience as approved by executive management Geographical Location: Minnesota: Arden Hills, Rochester or Winona Minnesota Physical Location: Arden Hills, Rochester or Winona Minnesota Shift: Shift 1 Work Schedule: M-F 0800-1700 Full Time Export Control: This job position may include access to controlled information or technology covered under applicable U.S. export control laws.
