This is a seasonal position that will work approximately 40 hours/week June - August.

POSITION SUMMARY:

Under general supervision of the Recreation Specialist, the Camp Manager assists in implementation, coordination and supervision of youth day camps, activities, and events. This is accomplished by assisting in the day to day operations of day camps, interacting with program participants, developing schedules, assisting with ordering supplies and equipment, assisting in promoting events and ensuring the readiness of facilities. Other duties include administrative support, on-site supervision and instruction of programs. This is a seasonal position and requires holiday and weekend work.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist in implementation and coordination of day camps by scheduling activities and events, assisting with ordering supplies and equipment, responding to questions and comments from the public, inspecting facilities prior to programming, and assist with training and supervising Camp Counselors.
  • Provide administrative and clerical support with necessary record keeping related to the camp programs.
  • Lead, supervise, and conduct day camp activities.
  • Supervise camp participants properly and respond immediately during emergencies, including administering first aid as necessary.
  • Assist in control of equipment and supplies.
  • Maintain attendance, discipline and other records for program participants.
  • Effectively communicate with children, parents/guardians, and the public.
  • Assist with the recruiting, selection, and supervision of the daily activities of the Camp Counselors.
  • Present a professional appearance and attitude at all times, and maintain a high standard of customer service.
  • Perform various maintenance duties as directed to maintain a clean and safe facility.
  • Prepare and maintain appropriate records and reports.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Regular and punctual attendance is required.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES:

Ability to readily accept instruction from those in a supervisory capacity.

Ability to respond calmly and effectively in emergency situations.

Strong working knowledge in the implementation of camp programming and activities.

Strong working knowledge in the supervision and care of children, and communicating with parents and guardians in a professional manner.

Ability to deescalate conflicts and negotiate effectively.

Ability to prepare and complete routine administrative paperwork.

Ability to follow routine verbal and written instructions. Ability to effectively organize work and resources.
