Position Summary

The Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach is a 12-month, limited appointment. The assistant coach position, under guidance of the head strength and conditioning coach, is responsible for assisting with the development and implementation of assigned sport program(s) strength and conditioning related activities and providing expert knowledge and instruction in strength and conditioning for intercollegiate athletics programs in support of fielding competitive teams, fostering a positive student-athlete experience, and maintaining regulatory compliance.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborates with sport coaches and assists in the development and monitoring of individual and team weight training and conditioning programs.

  • Assists with the instruction and execution of conditioning simulations and exercises for athletic teams, provides information, and consults with student-athletes regarding weightlifting and conditioning techniques and safety.

  • Monitors team training facilities and equipment to ensure safe and operable conditions.

  • Serves as point of contact and liaison to coaching staff, athletic trainers, and student-athletes to monitor physical health, improve athletic abilities, and provide information and coaching

    Knowledge Skills and Abilities

  • Bachelor’s degree required in Exercise Science, Exercise Physiology, Kinesiology, Physical Education or related field (Master’s degree preferred)

  • Minimum of 2 years strength and conditioning experience at the high school or collegiate level

  • Current strength and conditioning certification from a nationally recognized program such as Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist ( CSCS ), Strength and Conditioning Coach Certified ( SCCC ) or National Council on Strength and Fitness Certified Strength Coach ( CSC )

  • Current First Aid/ CPR / AED certification

  • Ability to plan, develop, and coordinate multiple projects

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a diverse staff and student body

  • Demonstrated commitment to student-athlete character development

  • Ability to communicate and organize with student-athletes within the rules and regulations of UWRF , WIAC and NCAA DIII

  • Ability to set challenging goals and seek continuous improvement

  • Ability to contribute to a positive work environment

  • Ability to demonstrate leadership characteristics within athletics and throughout the university
