Position Summary
This is a full-time, 9-month, tenure-track research and teaching position at the Assistant Professor level. The first two years will include a teaching load of 9 credit hours (three courses) per academic year. Teaching load in subsequent years will be a maximum of 15 credit hours but may be lower based on grant receipts. We are interested in candidates with expertise in Regional Economics with a focus on Wisconsin community economic development. This position is funded through the Wisconsin Dairy Innovation Hub https://dairyinnovationhub.wisc.edu/. The purpose of the Hub is to harness research and development to keep Wisconsin’s dairy community at the global forefront in producing nutritious dairy products in an economically, environmentally and socially sustainable manner. One priority of the Hub is to grow farm businesses and communities.
Responsibilities
Research 37.5%
Develop and engage in research, scholarly and creative activities related to Wisconsin economic development as part of the Wisconsin Dairy Innovation Hub, and which lead to publications in peer-reviewed journals and presentations.
Draft grant proposals and secure external funding.
Establish and maintain linkages within Wisconsin and its regional agribusiness community.
Research the development of tools to advance Wisconsin’s regional community, business and economic development goals.
Participate in UWRF and DIH community-engagement efforts throughout Wisconsin.
Teaching 62.5%
Teach undergraduate courses in agricultural economics and agribusiness management.
Develop and teach course(s) in regional economics.
Develop new curricular initiatives that may include development of undergraduate courses.
Serve as academic advisor for students in the Agricultural Business, Agricultural Studies, and/or (Agricultural) Marketing Communications programs.
Serve as an advisor for co-curricular activities such as student clubs or organizations, internships, and student research projects.
Participate in faculty governance and service activities at the departmental, college, and university-levels.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities
Required:
Ph.D. in Agricultural Economics or a related area at the time of employment.
Demonstrated potential for scholarly research and peer-reviewed publications.
Strong interest in and ability to teach agricultural economics and agricultural business courses to undergraduate students.
Preferred:
A well-defined research agenda
Documented evidence of successful teaching at the college level.
Proficiency in grant proposal writing, showcasing the ability to strategically seek and secure grant funding to support research objectives.
Business or agricultural experiences in the U.S. or comparable setting.
Experience in either GIS or regional economic development programs (e.g. IMPLAN ).
Strong interest in and ability to provide academic advising to undergraduate students.
Strong interest in and ability to advise co-curricular activities such as student clubs or organizations, internships, or undergraduate research.
Documented evidence of successful teaching to extension audiences.
