COLORADO STATE VETERANS COMMUNITY LIVING CENTER – HOMELAKE:

To ensure a safe, sanitary, well-maintained, comfortable living and working environment for residents of a 60-bed skilled nursing home and 50-unit domiciliary, staff, and visitors. The facility has embraced the Culture Change and Eden concepts. We strive to provide exemplary service to the residents by fulfilling daily and special requests that the residents may have. Exemplary care is given in cleaning and sanitizing and in keeping the resident rooms and their atmosphere clean, organized, homelike, and safe. Description of Job

This is a full-time, permanent, in-person position. Shift Work: Days, Evenings, and Night shifts to include holidays and weekends as needed.

Please note: These working arrangements are subject to change.

The purpose of the work unit is to maintain a functional, attractive, comfortable, and safe working and living environment for residents, staff, and visitors. The position will perform comprehensive grounds keeping, building maintenance, and routine and preventative maintenance on equipment, systems, appliances, buildings, and grounds.

Primary Job Duties:

Grounds Keeping

  • Responsible for daily grounds keeping including but not limited to the cemetery, mowing, trimming, fertilization, spraying, pruning, weeding, raking, and irrigation of trees, grounds-cover, and foliage on approximately 37 acres of landscaped grounds which includes a 1600 grave-site cemetery and 565 more gravesites after completion of cemetery expansion.

  • Maintains exterior fencing, sidewalks, patios, pavilion, and parking­ lots daily to ensure they are clean of debris and/or trash.

  • Performs grave openings /closings for casket and cremation internments.

  • Maintains scheduled and preventative maintenance on all equipment per assignment and documents work (per Maximo Preventive Maintenance system requirements).

  • Completes assigned work orders related to the cemetery and grounds, and reports any unsafe conditions to supervisor.

  • Responsible for using and following all requirements associated with purchasing cards. Responsible for maintaining facility policies and life safety codes per Colorado Department of Public Health and U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs standards.

Equipment (Building and Grounds)

  • Responsible for completing assigned work orders related to routine and preventative maintenance of all equipment including but not limited to wells, lawn sprinklers, timers, and mechanical systems as well as appliances, climate control systems, recirculating hot water systems, fire alarm systems, nurse call system, electric beds, wheelchairs, assistive devices to maintain safe, optimum working order & appearance.

  • Conduct timely, required inspections on equipment to meet all CDPHE and U.S. Dept. of Veterans Affairs life safety codes and standards.

Building Maintenance

  • Perform quality, multi-trade (electrical, plumbing, sewage, painting, drywalling, texture, tile installation, etc.) related repairs, construction, remodeling, inspections, routine and preventative maintenance on buildings and structures.

  • Keep equipment and buildings in a safe, optimum working order & appearance.

  • Responsible for identifying, ordering, and acquisition of associated parts and materials.

  • Conduct timely, required inspections on building structures to meet all CDPHE and U.S. Dept. of Veterans Affairs life safety codes and standards.

Recordkeeping/Purchasing,Other duties as related/required

  • Hang pictures, install televisions, move furniture, shovel and plow snow, thaw graves, repair furnishings, etc.

  • Assist internal and external Customers, attend/participate in home functions, meetings & training.

  • Incorporate the "Eden Principals" into duties and assignments.

  • Responsible for set-up and cleanup of the worksite including inspection of equipment/tools before and upon completion of work.

  • Minor maintenance and repair to State Vehicles and associated equipment.

  • Driving of State vehicles for, acquiring material, fueling vehicles, delivery/recovery of vehicles to repair facilities, etc.

  • Responsible for becoming familiar with and complying with established procurement rules and maintaining accurate purchasing records, spend-down sheets, and receiving reports.

  • Adapting to frequent additions to or changes in processes, policies, and procedures.

  • Via Immediate Supervisor or through the use of the Maximo Maintenance System, receive and complete assigned work orders for duties as described.

  • Responsible for daily maintaining required paperwork (i.e., timesheets, leave requests, invoices, spend-down sheets, task sheets, work orders, facility service sheets etc.) and forwarding to the appropriate channels.

Minimum Qualifications

Experience Only:

Two (2) years of relevant experience in an occupation related to the work assigned to

this position

OR

Education and Experience:

A combination of related education, formalized apprenticeship program, and/or

relevant experience in an occupation related to the work assigned equal to two (2)

years

Substitutions:

None

Preferred qualification:

  • Experience relating to several of the job duties required for this position

  • Two years of combined experience working in an occupational field involving electrical, plumbing, heavy equipment operation , and/or grounds keeping,

    Conditions of Employment:

  • Full background check and reference check required to include CBI name check and fingerprint check, ICON Colorado court database, Medicare fraud database, Drug Screen, CAPS (direct contact with adults)

  • Must possess a valid, unrestricted U.S. Driver's License

  • Travel: Driving State vehicles for acquiring material, fueling vehicles, delivering/recovering vehicles to repair.

  • Shift Work: Days, Evenings, and Night shifts to include holidays and weekends as needed.

  • This position is designated as Essential Services. Employees in essential positions can be only FLSA nonexempt and can be required to work unexpected or unusual work hours to perform the essential and/or emergency services of the department without delay and/or without interruption.

  • Former State employees who were disciplinarily terminated or resigned in lieu of termination must (1) disclose that information on the application (2) provide an explanation why the prior termination or resignation should not disqualify the applicant from the current position, (3) provide the employee number from the applicant’s prior State employment. Absent extraordinary circumstances, prior disciplinary termination or resignation in lieu of termination and failure to provide this information will disqualify the applicant from future State employment with CDHS.
