Position Summary:

All EVS Staff will participate in a rotating on-call program with the use of a cell phone and be required to respond to the University to perform different tasks at various hours of the day and night.

Environmental Services Technicians will perform all cleaning duties necessary on the interior and exterior of all buildings designated by Franklin Pierce University. Assignments may include, but are not limited to: residence housing, administrative, academic, recreational and athletic buildings. This position will require heavy lifting and possible transportation of materials and equipment and involve working with biohazard substances. Individuals may be required to work some weekends, holidays and mandatory days.

All positions require the incumbent to be flexible to meet the needs of the department and the institution.

Typical Schedule:

Expected work schedule for all employees is :   Monday – Friday 7:00 am to 3:30 pm.

As this position is designated as essential, you should report to the campus during emergencies unless otherwise excused by the Environmental Services Supervisor or Assistant Director of Facilities.

Job Responsibilities and Essential Functions of the Position:

  • Cleaning restrooms and makes sure that each are restocked with paper and soap supplies.

  • Empties trash receptacles and bags trash for proper disposal.

  • Performs routine maintenance to custodial equipment and/or supplies.

  • Ensures proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies; promotes continuous improvement of workplace safety and environmental practices.

  • Maintains adequate supplies for the day-to-day needs of custodial staff.

  • Ensures that all doors are secured and locked after cleaning in those areas.

  • Cleaning of floors and carpets. This may include use of scrubbing machines, vacuums and extractors.

  • As this position is designated as essential,  report to the campus during emergencies unless otherwise excused by the Environmental Services Supervisor or Assistant Director of Facilities.

    Position Requirements/Skills/Abilities:

  • High School Diploma or  GED preferred, but not required.

  • Possess a valid driver’s license.

  • Must successfully complete criminal background check.

  • Must possess a familiarity with Hazardous Materials procedures

  • One year of general cleaning experience, knowledge and experience with carpet and floor maintenance techniques and equipment. Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office products, such as: Word, Excel, Access and Outlook.

    Environmental Factors and Physical Requirements:

    As this position requires considerable physical activity and heavy physical work, the incumbent must be physically able to perform heavy lifting, pushing or pulling, and is required to lift objects up to 50 pounds. Possess dexterity abilities required to perform cleaning, such as, ability to bend, stoop, stretch, grasp, push and pull and to climb stairs and/or ladders. Physical work is a primary part – more than 70% of the job. Must also possess the dexterity abilities required to perform typing, operate a computer and other office equipment.

     

    Incumbent’s work environment will involve frequent exposure to hazards or physical risks, which require following basic safety precautions. Work involves moderate exposure to unusual elements, such as, extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors, and/or loud noises.
