M.C. Dean is seeking a surveyor to join our team in Northern Virginia.In this role you will provide quality surveying services to the company to ensure construction work complies with design drawings and specifications. Performs survey measurements for jobset-up, stake-out, and "As-Built". Provides survey support to job site personnel as required throughout the course of a project.

Operates a variety of survey equipment as the job demands and works on multiple jobs. The Survey Technician works under the direction of the Project Superintendent.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assists in determining elevations and laying out stakes; marks points of measurement with required data; assists in measuring between points; places stakes at designated points and specified elevations.

  • Operates all survey equipment including Total Station, GPS Data collector, and Auto Levels.

  • Able to follow detailed instructions and pay close attention to detail.

  • Able to read construction drawings and specifications.

  • Willing to learn new concepts and adapt to new technologies.

Skills, Knowledge, Qualifications & Experience

  • Educational requirements include a High School diploma or GED.

  • 2+ years’ experience related to new construction surveying

  • Proficient in algebra, geometry, and trigonometry.

  • Proficient communication skills including verbal and written, interpersonal and organizational.

  • Ability to interact professionally with all levels of staff with strong customer service orientation.

  • Ability to commit to the company values.

  • Ability to collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.

  • Ability to travel as required which may include out-of-town travel.

  • Must have a valid driver's license.

  • Must have a dependable vehicle with up-to-date inspection stickers to perform work-related duties.

  • Current surveyor license is preferred

Physical Demands/Work Environment

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to speak and hear. The employee is frequently required to stand, walk; use hands and fingers, handle or feel and reach with hands and arms. The employee is required to sit; climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. Must have the ability to work long hours and drive long distances to and from work; may be required to work some weekends.

Abilities:

  1. Lifts at least 100 pounds at one time and 60 pounds for an extended period.

  2. Relocates a 12 foot stepladder without assistance.

  3. Works at various heights up to 60 feet and can climb and maintain balance on scaffolds, aerial lifts, catwalks and all types of ladders.

  4. Walks, climbs, lifts, squats, crawls, kneels, pushes, pulls and reaches overhead on a routine and repetitive basis.

  5. Possess good vision (may be corrected vision), the ability to see in color, and the ability to hear and communicate in English.

  6. May use a standard ladder without exceeding the weight limit while carrying tools.

  7. Identify something wrong or is likely to go wrong. It does not involve solving the problem, only recognizing there is a problem.

  8. Apply general rules to specific problems to produce answers that make sense.

  9. Combine pieces of information to form general rules or conclusions (including finding a relationship among seemingly unrelated events).

  10. See details at close range (within a few feet of the observer).

  11. Listen to and understand information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentences.
