About This Job

Senior Product Technical Program Managers (TPMs) at CarMax drive the delivery of large-scale and high priority Product initiatives, bridging the gap between product strategy and technical execution. This role is positioned to manage and maintain complex multi-team initiatives that span organizational boundaries through the product delivery lifecycle, from idea generation through to release. You will be responsible for defining and guiding high-level goals and roadmaps, monitoring and communicating progress, and driving clarity through multiple levels of the organization.

The person successful in this role has a high degree of results focus accompanied with a desire to win together. It requires a strong technical background, an understanding of system architecture, and the experience to effectively collaborate across all levels of product, design, and technology to deliver impact.

Senior Technical Program Manage r Responsibilities

  • Develop and manage end-to-end roadmaps in service of product priorities.

  • Manage cross-functional programs and projects in a matrixed organization.

  • Communicate progress and escalate impediments to enable smooth delivery.

  • Bring a strong sense of strategic execution to the Product and Technology Organization.

  • Establish shared goals and objectives to build alignment across multiple cross-functional teams.

  • Provide ongoing communication of planning, project status, issues and risks promptly to stakeholders.

  • Proactively identify process improvement opportunities or gaps in product development cycle for owned and others' products and propose solutions. Test, implement, and iterate on potential improvements in planning and development processes.

  • Mentor and develop peers to be high performing members of the broader product organization.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelors or Masters in Computer Science, Information Systems, Informatics, related fieldor equivalent experience.

  • 5+ years of leading large scale, complex, cross-functional programs.

  • Expertise in building strong cross-team relationships and working cross-functionally with Product Management, Design, Engineering, Analysts, Technology, Operations, Legal, Security, Marketing.

  • Expertise in working with multiple organizational levels including mid-level management and org leadership.

  • Ability to lead without authority in order to drive cross-functional teams toward completion of their deliverables.

  • Comfortable operating in a fluid, agile, and team-oriented environment; experience bringing order to chaos in a matrixed, highly cross-functional organization

  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills that reflect clear thinking and messaging across different cohorts of audience.

  • Expertise using agile, project and issue tracking software.

  • Deep expertise in agile principles and practices, and the ability to transfer that understanding with Product and Program teams.

  • Proven experience with positively impacting org-wide health and performance leveraging agile methodologies at scale.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite of tools and Azure boards.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience working with product data and technology platforms.

  • Experience in inventory management or customer profile solutions.

  • Retail or Automotive industry experience is a plus.
