Amentum Senior Estimator in Richmond, Virginia

Successful candidates will be responsible and accountable for generating and documenting accurate estimates in support of proposal efforts. Responsible for leading, maintaining and coordinating project estimates to meet schedules. In coordination with the Project Manager, lead the preparation and documenting of in-house estimates for the project. Develop statements of work to outsource technical services, liaison with Global Supply Chain to find sources, and respond to questions from the trade contractors. Assist the project team, providing input, coordination and problem solving related to the estimates, at all stages of design.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Review the solicitation workload information to identify key workload drivers and missing information

  • Prepare questions for the Customer regarding required information for proper estimating

  • Use industry best practice tools and standards, such as RSMeans, UFC, etc., to develop initial estimates

  • Interface with subject matter experts to refine estimates

  • Assist and coordinate estimate preparation for specialty trades

  • Document source(s) of estimate information such as parameters, values, model approach, and model calibration (where parametric estimates were used)

  • Perform product research to support preventative/predictive maintenance standards in support of estimates

  • Prepare bid packages for outsourced trades/services; obtain consensus with operations personnel on requirements and quality control measures

  • Ensure that all work scope items (e.g., assumptions, performance standards, quality control methods, etc.) are included the BOE Worksheets

  • Prepare clear, properly formatted BOE Worksheets

  • Fully analyze/scope subcontractor and vendor bids - verify proper and complete scope items are addressed; establish consistency between bids to allow evaluation of apparent low bidder; coordinate scope with other trade packages

  • Produce conceptual trade estimates; review and analyze historical trade cost information to adjust estimates

  • Assist in documenting assumptions and estimates

  • Evaluate labor estimates for specific projects and/or locations; demonstrate proficiency in material, labor, sub and equipment cost estimates for specialties

  • Assist with assembly of complete, well formatted estimate presentation

  • Organize and file data for historical estimating purposes

  • Visit ongoing projects to capture knowledge in core specialty trade areas

Minimal Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in finance, engineering, or business administration or demonstrated equivalent of education, training and 10 years industry experience, plus a minimum of 5 years estimating Facility Maintenance projects

  • Candidates must possess great work ethic and ability to work in a team environment. Ability to handle multiple priorities with interruptions and still meet deadlines. Well-developed interpersonal and written communication skills. Self-starter capable of working independently and as a member of a team. Excellent organizational skills vital.

  • High proficiency in MS Excel and Internet research
