Hanford Mission Integration Solutions Fire Protection Specialist (39429) in Richland, Washington

Job Duties/Scope Of Work JOB SUMMARY: The role of the Fire Protection Specialist (FPS) as part of the Hanford Fire Marshal's Office in providing fire prevention and fire protection to the Hanford Site includes but is not limited to; compliance with applicable Department of Energy directives and standards, compliance with applicable codes and standards, compliance with contractor fire protection requirements documents and procedures. Additionally, the Fire Protection Specialist's will directly support the Hanford Fire Marshal, and Deputy Fire Marshal's by performing the following essential job duties (below). The grade level of the successful candidate will be predicated on the individual's qualifications, education and experience level, proficiency, and level of oversight required. Job duties include, but may not be limited to: •Review and prepare Interpretation Clarification Request (ICRs) of fire protection requirements. •Review of plans, drawings, and specifications for fire suppression and detection systems, new or modified water supplies, and facility modifications. •Issuance of Fire Marshal findings for non-complaint items. •Tracking and elevating fire protection non-compliances and findings as needed. •Ensuring that compensatory measures are implemented for fire protection impairments. •Review of or preparation of fire protection system deactivation analysis. •The review and coordination with facility management on preparation and approvals for fire protection system acceptance test procedures. •The review of non-emergency hydrant tie-in permits. •The evaluation and control of fire and life safety hazards. •Oversight of fire system inspection testing and maintenance. •Assisting with determining the reductions of the number of fire protection systems that are no longer required. •Performance of facility walk-downs when evaluating fire systems for deactivation and may interface with facility management, and the fire systems maintenance organization to ensure facility deactivations are appropriately managed and executed. •Performance of Development Facility Fire Protection Assessments. •Performance of the Triennial Fire Protection Program Assessments. •Development and review of fire protection equivalencies and exemptions and ensure exemptions and equivalencies follow the approved format and process. •The development of building Fire Hazards Analysis and Fire Protection Design Analysis. •Investigations of fires and explosions. •Developing Fire Marshal Advisory Bulletins. •Implementation of the various Hanford Mission Integration Solutions (HMIS) fire protection program aspects of. •Preparing, reviewing Hanford Fire Marshal Permits in accordance with NFPA 1. •Evaluation and documenting the impact of implementing new versions of codes and standards. •Other duties as assigned. Basic Qualifications * All qualified candidates must possess strong verbal and written communication skills and must have the ability to interact in a professional demeanor on a daily basis with co-workers and management. * Degree requirements below require candidates to possess a Bachelors of Science degree in the engineering/technologies or other related fire protection discipline - OR - be enrolled in the degree program with anticipated completion occurring within 2 semesters. Completion of the degree program must be verified prior to employment with HMIS. Note: Each successful candidate's individual qualifications and grade level will be evaluated, while considering the following minimum educational and experience requirements below: •ENTRY LEVEL (Grades 14-15): Bachelors of Science degree in the engineering/technologies or other related fire protection discipline plus 0-1 years of relevant experience. •INTERMEDIATE LEVEL (Grades 16-17): Bachelors of Science degree in the engineering/technologies or other related fire protectio
