Job Responsibilities/Duties

Washington River Protection Solutions (WRPS) is the tank farm operating contractor at the Hanford Site located in Richland, WA. The WRPS mission is to safely store, retrieve, and treat 56 million gallons of legacy radioactive and hazardous waste. This complex mission spans all competencies of engineering/science accomplished through a highly integrated organization engineering organization. WRPS was identified as "One of America's Safest Companies" in 2020; and was the recipient of the 2021 "Employer of the Year" by the Association of Washington Businesses.

The Design Engineering organization provides in-house design engineering support to Production Operations, Single Shell Tank (SST) Retrievals, Tank Farm Projects and Facilities Maintenance. It is responsible for oversight of design execution and change control and drawing configuration control for the TOC and owns the associated procedures. Design Engineering is also responsible for Procurement Engineering and supports implementation of the Commercial Grade Dedication (CGD) process.

The Electrical Engineer in the Design Engineering organization will:

  • Provide electrical engineering designs, calculations, specifications and analyses within project budget and schedule.

  • Produce a wide spectrum of industrial power distribution designs involving power panels, switchboards, MCCs, programmable logic controllers, motor circuits, variable frequency drives, UPS units, transfer switches, metering equipment, transformers, safety disconnects, overcurrent protection, grounding, and lighting systems.

  • Develop instrumentation and controls wiring documents based on P&ID drawings for fabrication and installation of industrial control panels with process automation monitoring & control devices, and with various NEC wiring methods.

  • Originate and check equipment and wiring design deliverables to meet detailed customer expectations.

  • Communicate with internal and external organizations to produce high quality documents.

  • Apply diversified knowledge of engineering principles and practices to solve electrical problems.

  • Provide engineering field support during installation of electrical equipment.

  • Interface with equipment suppliers and leverage vendor technical expertise in electrical designs.

  • Represent the electrical design group on multi-discipline project teams and in client conferences to effectively resolve electrical issues.

  • Understand and apply common IEEE, NFPA and NEMA industrial consensus standards to electrical designs.

  • Interface cohesively with mechanical, structural, civil and process engineers to make sound decisions that facilitate optimum overall solutions.

  • Problem-solving for complex technical challenges with adaptations of engineering alternatives.

  • Ability to execute tasks with minimal oversight

  • Function as design team lead on project or departmental task assignments.

Required Qualifications

Grade 17:

Bachelors of Science Degree (BS) in Electrical Engineering or related technical discipline with

Five (5) years related experience

Grade 18:

Bachelors of Science Degree (BS) in Electrical Engineering or related technical discipline with

Seven (7) years related experience

Note the essential duties for this grade level are like that of the previous grade level, however the scope of responsibility and the expected level of performance is increased.

Grade 19:

Bachelors of Science Degree (BS) in Electrical Engineering or related technical discipline with

Nine (9) years related experience

Desired Qualifications

Experience with NFPA 70E, Standard for Electrical Safety in the Workplace.

Experience with electrical system modeling programs for design simulations of electrical load flow, protective device settings, short circuit current and arc flash data.

Compensation & Benefits

In accordance with the company's philosophy on compensation for exempt and salaried non-exempt employees, WRPS takes into consideration a variety of factors when determining initial salary to include assigned job scope and responsibility, a candidate's qualifications as compared to internal comparators performing in a similar role, and the external labor market. A salary offer will be made within the targeted hiring range posted. Note a candidate's prior salary history will not be taken into consideration.

Hiring Range Minimum: $114,475

Hiring Range Maximum: $174,900
