Job Responsibilities/Duties

Washington River Protection Solutions (WRPS) seeks an Engineer who will be responsible to act as the Engineering Discipline Lead (Civil/Structural) in the Engineering Programs Group. This position will provide subject matter expertise in specified discipline with extensive knowledge of codes and standards applicable to the discipline. This position will need to have excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to effectively influence practitioners across the Tank Operations Contractor (TOC) in the disciplined conduct of their specific subject matter.

The Engineer's duties and responsibilities include the following:

  • Provide expertise in the civil/structural engineering discipline, providing reviews for design projects and support to civil and structural design;

  • Represent TOC and make authoritative technical recommendations in respect of their discipline.

  • Establish and maintain relationships with Department of Energy (DOE), external Subject Matter Expert (SMEs) and the supply chain and to augment in-house subject matter expert when required to deliver within the TOC scope;

  • Develop, implement, maintain, assess and interpret assigned discipline-specific processes, procedures and standards to be applied to TOC engineering work; keep current with and assess changes to DOE, national, and industry consensus codes and standards applicable to their discipline and as assigned;

  • Provide discipline design and technical reviews of new designs, major facility modifications, and other technical documents as required by procedures and as requested;

  • Interpret discipline-specific design and technical basis information to support operations and project delivery;

  • Maintain technical competence and stay current with modern standards, tools and methodologies relevant to their respective discipline;

  • Support operations and project delivery in the identification of appropriate discipline-specific design input and engineering processes, procedures and standards to be used for the delivery of engineering work;

  • Sponsor and/or lead discipline-specific process improvement initiatives;

  • Communicate, train, and advise the organization on discipline-specific technical requirements and issues;

  • Promote and facilitate best practice and the sharing of discipline-specific learning across the TOC;

  • Apply an extensive and diversified knowledge of engineering principles and practices in assignments and related work;

  • Make decisions independently on engineering problems and methods and represents the department in conferences to resolve important questions and coordinate work;

  • Provide engineering guidance, calculations, analysis, studies, and recommendations for a specialized segment of engineering within schedule and budget; and

  • Perform other jobs as assigned.

Required Qualifications

Grade 20:

  • Bachelor's Degree (BS) in Civil Engineering or a related discipline; and

  • Ten (10) years of experience in related field

Grade 21:

  • Bachelor's Degree (BS) in Civil Engineering or a related discipline; and

  • Twelve (12) years of experience in related field

Note the essential duties for this grade level are like that of the previous grade level, however the scope of responsibility is larger, and the expected level of performance is increased.

Grade 22:

  • Bachelor's Degree (BS) in Civil Engineering or a related discipline; and

  • Fifteen (15) years of experience in related field

Note the essential duties for this grade level are like that of the previous grade level, however the scope of responsibility is significantly larger, and the expected level of performance is greatly increased.

Desired Qualifications

  • Currently certified as Registered Professional Engineer (PE) and/or Structural Engineer (SE), ideally in State of Washington.

  • Knowledge of and proficiency in applicable orders, codes, and standards with emphasis on ASME, ASCE, ACI, AISC, International Building Code, CSI, DOE O 420.1, DOE-STD-1020, DOE STD-1189.

ro* Familiarity with site runoff and drainage.

  • Familiarity with testing materials used in construction.

  • Familiarity with requirements and design for Natural Phenomena Hazards.

  • Experience and familiarity in civil site survey.

  • Experience with Hoisting and Rigging

  • Experience in developing and writing design, construction, and procurement specifications.

  • Experience in developing, writing and updating standards and procedures.

  • Experience in training, instruction and mentoring engineers.

  • Experience interfacing with DOE, stakeholders, and other SMEs.

  • Familiarity with TOC procedures and standards.

Compensation & Benefits

Grade 20:

Hiring Range Minimum: $126,025

Hiring Range Maximum: $158,875

Grade 21:

Hiring Range Minimum: $138,700

Hiring Range Maximum: $174,900

Grade 22:

Hiring Range Minimum: $155,625

Hiring Range Maximum: $204,775

In accordance with the company's philosophy on compensation for exempt and salaried non-exempt employees, WRPS takes into consideration a variety of factors when determining initial salary to include assigned job scope and responsibility, a candidate's qualifications as compared to internal comparators performing in a similar role, and the external labor market. A salary offer will be made within the targeted hiring range posted. Note a candidate's prior salary history will not be taken into consideration.
