JOB SUMMARY

Reports to: Principal

Summary: Provide classroom instruction and guidance to secondary students to insure student success, learning, and achievement.

RESPONSIBILITIES and ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Instruct students by lecturing, demonstrating competency based exploration, inquiry, large and small group work, and using audiovisual aids and other materials to supplement presentations.
• Prepare course objectives and outline for course of study following curriculum guidelines or requirements of state and school in the discipline taught.
• Assign lessons and correct homework.
• Administer tests to evaluate pupil progress, records results, and issue reports to inform parents of progress.
• Keep attendance records.
• Maintain discipline in the classroom.
• Participate in faculty and professional meetings, educational conferences, and teacher training workshops.
• Perform related duties such as sponsoring one or more activities or student organizations, assisting pupils in selecting courses of study, and counseling students in adjustment and academic problems.
• Maintain professional competence through in-service education activities provided by the district, and in self-selected professional growth activities.

SPECIFICATIONS AND/OR QUALIFICATIONS

Must have proper licensure and endorsement to teach the subject matter through the Iowa BOEE. Must have a good pedagogical background and ability to interact and work with all students.

Working inside of a classroom but also may have some time outdoors if the classroom
