Valley Medical Center Oncology Treatment Coordinator in Renton, Washington

JOB DESCRIPTION

TITLE: Oncology Treatment Coordinator / Oncology Treatment Coordinator Charge Capture Resource

ROLE: The position is responsible for treatment authorization for multiple modalities; medications administered at the Infusion center, radiation therapy, and diagnostics imaging with a great deal of independence but under the direction and guidance of the Manager. Works closely with Insurance verifiers, Pharmacy, Infusion, Providers, Insurance Companies, and others.

WORK HOURS: Typically, Monday - Friday, 7:30 am to 4:00 pm or as needed to meet departmental needs.

DEPARTMENT: Cancer Services

REPORTS TO: Manager Oncology Outreach

PREREQUISITES:

  1. High School Graduate or equivalent (G.E.D.) required.

  2. Minimum 3 years of experience in Oncology clinic.

  3. Knowledge of oncology medical terminology and abbreviations; can spell and understand commonly used terms preferred.

  4. Basic skills in keyboarding (35 wpm) and using a personal computer in Windows 2000 or XP environment required.

  5. Prior experience in using practice management and electronic medical record systems.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Demonstrated knowledge of oncology ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS.

  2. Professional written and verbal communication skills using the English language.

  3. Ability to problem solve, exhibit independent decision-making skills.

  4. Demonstrated ability to function independently and manage time.

  5. Demonstrated ability to access, analyze and apply concepts associated with protocol, policy, and guidelines.

  6. Ability to recognize and understand clinical documentation pertinent for obtaining prior authorizations

  7. Neat and well-groomed appearance, business professional.

  8. Demonstrated ability to successfully utilize varying computer tools and software packages:

a. Utilize multiple monitors in facilitation of workflow management

c. Healthcare websites/Provider portals

d. Business practice management system

TYPICAL PHYSICAL/MENTAL DEMANDS, ENVIRONMENT AND WORKING CONDITIONS:

Requires legible and writing and computer/keyboard skills. Excellent telephone skills are essential. Regular and punctual attendance is a condition of employment. Requires the ability to maintain self-composure and a positive attitude under stress. Requires flexible scheduling and extended hours as needed. Requires problem solving and coaching ability and effective resolution of conflicts.

  2. Essential Responsibilities and Competencies:

Verifies patient insurance eligibility and pre-certification approval and/or financial clearance for planned services

Clear knowledge of Current Procedural Terminology (CPT), International Classification of Diseases (ICD), and Healthcare Common Procedure Coding System (HCPCS) coding system.

Excellent analytical and critical thinking skills and a focus for detail is needed.

Strong organizational skills to effectively plan, direct and manage high volume of treatments requiring prior authorization.

Interpersonal skills: works as part of an integrated team comprised of Patient Access, Pharmacy, Insurance Verifiers, Infusion Center, Cancer Services, and Multi-Specialty Clinics.
