Description Katie Weigel with Robert Half Finance and Accounting, direct hire placement of accounting and finance professionals, is recruiting to fill a Controller role for a Construction company located in Reno. The company does work in NV, OR, CA, and WA, and is part of a larger corporation that is Private Equity owned. The company has a local feel with a corporate sophistication. The Controller role is focused on WIP. WIP drives every level of reporting, and budgeting and strong WIP experience is required for the role. The Controller is responsible for direct supervision of all accounting and financial functions for the NV operation. The Controller’s primary responsibilities include supervising the monthly close process; supervising accounts payable, payroll, and weekly & monthly financial reporting; assisting in monthly preparation of a reforecast; assisting in annual preparation of a budget. The Controller reports directly to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of the parent company and indirectly to the General Manager of Nevada. The position is based in Reno, NV.

• Manage the accounting department by maintaining accurate and timely financial management reports, including internal and external monthly financial statements and annual budgets and audits.

• Supervise the Accounts Payable department and ensure timely and accurate processing of Accounts Payable and purchase orders, including overseeing invoicing and posting cash.

• Supervise the Payroll department and ensure timely and accurate processing of payroll related taxes and payroll withholding including union benefits.

• Work with CFO to develop accurate and timely work and to facilitate monthly reporting to executive management and the Board.

• Assist in preparation of annual budget.

• Review and record journal entries required to reflect monthly activity.

• Prepare documentation supporting the monthly close process and month-end balances.

• Review monthly accounting close process including analytical review of the monthly operating results to ensure accurate accounting records are maintained.

• Prepare monthly financial statements.

• Prepare year-to-date cash flow statements.

• Perform cash projections to effectively manage cash balances and maximize the return on any excess cash balances.

• Maintain fixed asset records to coordinate quarterly inventory of fixed assets with the information technology department.

Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree in finance and/or accounting; an MBA or CPA is a plus.

• Job Costing and WIP experience is required.

• 10+ years’ experience in the accounting and finance sector.

• 5+ years’ experience managing accountants and the accounting and finance process.

• Strong ethical standards.

• Ability to handle payroll including the stresses that are associated with this important responsibility.

• Proven experience in a Controller role or similar within a finance department

• Proficiency in accounting functions and financial statement preparation

• Demonstrated knowledge and ability in auditing and budget processes

• Experience with Work In Progress (WIP) accounting is a must

• Proficiency in project accounting and job cost management

• Demonstrated ability in variance analysis

• Experience in month-end close procedures

• Ability to support an annual external audit

• Excellent communication and leadership skills

• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required

• Professional Accounting certification, such as CPA, is desirable

• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

• High level of integrity and dependability with a strong sense of urgency and results-orientation

• Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously in a deadline-driven environment.
