Legrand has an exciting opportunity for aComponent Engineerto join theData Center Power and Control Divisionin Reno, NV.The Component Engineer will independently source, evaluate, test, and document components in accordance with Server Technology engineering standards. This position will provide proactive assistance to identify and resolve component sustainability issues along with providing timely and accurate test reports and information. The Component Engineer will have a background in electrical engineering to support component engineering analysis of Server Technology’s products. The Component Engineer is expected to perform job duties quickly, efficiently, and according to the established departmental and company policies, procedures, and goals.

The Component Engineer, as with all members of the Server Technology Team, is expected to promote a positive attitude, demonstrate initiative, professionalism, personal awareness, integrity, and exercise confidentiality.

Main Job Duties:

  • Research new and alternate electrical components regarding function, availability, sustainability, and safety certification to ensure supply chain continuity.

  • Perform in-house laboratory tests and evaluations of new and existing components.

  • Maintain component-related documentation.

  • Assist Engineering Services in the generation of new component Specification and Source Control documentation.

  • Maintain Approved Vendors List in Agile Product Lifecycle Management (PLM).

  • Maintain the existing component database, including lifecycle, PCN alerts, etc.

  • Support execution of engineering changes, lifecycle changes, and document changes prior to component release.

  • Replace non-compliant manufacturers in the supply chain.

  • Identify and engage in cost-saving efforts such as direct material productivity (DMP) efforts that reduce design costs.

  • Collaborate with purchasing teams.

  • Support alternate component requests from contract manufacturers.

Qualifications

Required Skills

Education:Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering

Experience: Minimum of 2 years of Electrical Engineering experience and/or Component Engineering experience in a large volume production environment, preferred.

Skills/Knowledge/Abilities:

  • Ability to read and understand printed circuit board schematics.

  • Ability to read, research, and comprehend electronic component datasheets.

  • Knowledge of analog, digital, and mixed-signal circuit design.

  • Ability to use electronic test equipment, such as oscilloscopes, electronic loads, meters, function generators, spectrum analyzers, and multi-phase test equipment.

  • Must be comfortable working on live high voltage circuits and systems.

  • Previous experience providing engineering support for electronic components; previous experience with UL/CSA 60950 and EN 60950 standards for Information Technology a plus.

  • Strong attention to detail.

  • Effective oral and written communication skills with the ability to provide information across multiple groups in the Company including Engineering, Product Management, and Sales.

  • Strong organizational and planning skills and the ability to work independently.

  • Computer proficient with knowledge of Microsoft Office products (Word/Excel/Outlook/PowerPoint).

  • Familiarity with ISO 9000 standards and audit process.

    Work environment is fast-paced and priorities can shift quickly. All employees are expected to go outside their primary responsibilities when required, and multi-task job duties on a regular basis. While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is frequently required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms and talk or hear. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and may occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
