Ready to be pushed beyond what you think you’re capable of?
At Coinbase, our mission is to increase economic freedom in the world. It’s a massive, ambitious opportunity that demands the best of us, every day, as we build the emerging onchain platform — and with it, the future global financial system.
To achieve our mission, we’re seeking a very specific candidate. We want someone who is passionate about our mission and who believes in the power of crypto and blockchain technology to update the financial system. We want someone who is eager to leave their mark on the world, who relishes the pressure and privilege of working with high caliber colleagues, and who actively seeks feedback to keep leveling up. We want someone who will run towards, not away from, solving the company’s hardest problems.
Ourwork culture (https://www.coinbase.com/mission) is intense and isn’t for everyone. But if you want to build the future alongside others who excel in their disciplines and expect the same from you, there’s no better place to be.
Security is a primary competency at Coinbase, and the Security Operations Team keeps a watchful eye over every aspect of it. Every day, we go to battle against some of the most sophisticated attackers in the world to protect billions of dollars worth of digital assets and ensure that our customers and employees can enjoy a safe, trustworthy experience.
As Coinbase scales globally, our team is scaling along with it, using a blend of tooling, automation and strategic team growth to ensure that we’re well-equipped to protect the next billion crypto users.
What you’ll be doing (ie. job duties):
The Security Operations Team is a multi-functional organization that includes Trust & Safety, CSIRT, Threat Intelligence and Insider Threat. While no two days will look the same, as the brand protection manager within the Trust & Safety team you’ll be responsible for the following:
Strategy. You will take on large complex problems and create a clear cohesive strategy to address them. This means designing methods to track the problems (KPIs), levers to pull to mitigate the threats, and ensuring multiple teams are able to execute collaboratively.
Cross-functional execution. Your work touches many teams (engineering, product, legal, risk, customer experience); all of these teams play a part in combating threats and it is critical they work in harmony. You’re excited about understanding the mission of each team and you are ready to create frameworks that ensure wins for all teams. You actively listen and are biased toward creative action.
Continuous improvement . You are constantly questioning how to most effectively tackle big problems and you figure out the root cause where 20% effort has 80% effectiveness.
Topic areas of ownership. Pig-butchering scams, multi-surface monitoring and enforcement (ie - web2 domains, social media, etc), other user focused scams
What we look for in you (ie. job requirements):
Some security teams have strict requirements about certifications, degrees, years of experience, and things like that. Not us! We’re more interested in the unique perspectives and expertise you’ll bring to the team rather than the acronyms on your resume. However, you’ll be much more likely to be successful in this role if these points seem like a good description of you:
Relevant experience with increasing responsibility within a Trust & Safety or integrity team, 5+ years working on Trust & Safety related projects
You’re an operator at heart and are comfortable building and managing processes, scaling knowledge and process across large teams, and communicating clearly to XFN teams
You have knowledge-management experience; you have built or maintained knowledge bases
You have deep knowledge of continuous improvement and have taken existing processes from one-off to efficient scaled solutions
You’re comfortable doing data analysis (e.g., SQL) to help drive decision making
You can translate complex findings and results into a concise and compelling narrative
You frequently get praise from your peers and coworkers about your communication skills, both written and verbal
Nice to haves:
Six Sigma White Belt or equivalent experience in data driven process improvement
You would bring a diverse perspective to the team: for example you took an unconventional route to get into your current Trust and Safety career
You’ve been doing practical security things (detection and response, phishkit/malware analysis, security research, etc) for a bit now, in the realm of 2+ years
You’ve worked on or have thought deeply about Internet-based risk, abuse, fraud, data protection or security
You’ve got at least a passing familiarity with blockchains and cryptocurrency, or just a good story about how you thought about investing in Bitcoin in 2014 but decided not to
