Position: Graphic Design Manager

Location: Remote Position for CORTEK, Inc. (CORTEK) with occasional travel to Veterans Benefits Administration (VBA) locations, including the Central Office at 1800 G Street NW in Washington, D.C., and VBA Regional Offices.

CORTEK is hiring a Graphic Design Manager to support the Office of Automated Benefits Delivery, Strategic Communications, and Change Management. The Graphic Design Manager will oversee the visual and creative aspects of our design projects. This role requires at least five (5) years of graphic design expertise and a strong understanding of Section 508 standards and related laws within the Rehabilitation Act of 1973. The Graphic Design Manager will ensure that all design projects meet accessibility standards and deliver high-quality visual communications that align with the organization's objectives.

VBA is committed to leveraging automation to improve the overall claims processing system, ensuring a better experience for both Veterans and VBA employees. The integrated strategic communications and change management program will play a pivotal role in achieving these objectives, supporting continuous improvement, and fostering stakeholder buy-in and understanding.

Duties:

  • Lead and manage the graphic design team, ensuring timely completion of all projects with the highest quality standards.

  • Develop and implement innovative concepts and visual designs for various media, including print, digital, and multimedia.

  • Ensure all designs adhere to Section 508 standards and related laws under the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, promoting accessibility and inclusivity in all visual content.

  • Oversee multiple design projects simultaneously, managing timelines, resources, and client expectations.

  • Work closely with departments such as marketing, communications, and web development to ensure cohesive and effective visual strategies.

  • Review and approve designs, graphics, and layouts to ensure they meet the organization's standards and project requirements.

  • Mentor and train junior designers on best practices, design techniques, and accessibility standards.

  • Stay current with the latest design tools, software, and trends to ensure the team's skills and tools remain effective and up-to-date.

    Required Qualifications:

  • Must possess at least five (5) years of graphic design expertise.

  • Experience with Section 508 standards and related laws within the Rehabilitation Act of 1973.

  • Bachelor's degree in Graphic Design, Visual Arts, or a related field; a Master's degree is advantageous.

  • Proficiency in graphic design software, such as Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign).

  • Strong understanding of visual design principles, typography, color theory, and layout techniques.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, along with strong attention to detail

  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.

    Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous experience working for or with the Veterans Benefits Administration.

  • Experience in a managerial or supervisory role with strong leadership, team-building, and motivational skills.

  • Design tools and software experience, such as Sketch and Figma.

    Clearance:

    Tier 1 clearance is needed, which requires a Background Investigation .
