GE Vernova EHS Site Specialist - Onshore Wind North America in Remote, New Mexico

Job Description Summary

The General Electric Onshore Wind North America ( ONW NAM) team is searching for motivated, high-energy EHS Site Specialist to join an industry leading EHS team. The EHS Site Specialist role is a field-based position that supports active GE onshore wind construction, repowering projects and services team in North America.

An EHS Site Specialist works to promote a fair, reporting and learning culture on project sites, to ensure compliance to GE EHS standards, and to help innovate solutions to protect the health and safety of workers in the field. The Roles & Responsibilities section below best defines the role, which prioritizes the proactive management of site EHS risks in the field. This role requires EHS Site Specialists to familiarize themselves with the work being performed by the personnel in the field and EHS Site Specialists will receive day to day management and development support from Lead EHS Specialists and the NAM Projects EHS Leader.

Job Description

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Must exhibit professional conduct, possess effective communication skills, and be capable of utilizing technology / software (ex. Microsoft Office, Outlook, Teams, 365, EHS data entry, etc.)

  • Prioritize and conduct daily Field Walks and weekly Tower Climbs in the field (where the work is being performed) to proactively manage site safety risks and provide coaching.

  • Leverage Field Walks and Tower Climbs to become familiar with GE EHS Projects Policies & Procedures, technical work instructions.

  • Work with site leadership to ensure site personnel compliance with policies, procedures, and technical processes.

  • Escalate issues, concerns and gaps identified in policies, procedures, and technical processes to management.

  • Engage workers, site leadership, customer, and contractor representatives in EHS related discussions and provide coaching to promote a proactive EHS culture.

  • Facilitate the completion of all project site GE EHS Plan and Emergency Response Plan requirements with site leadership and workers.

  • Follow reporting requirements, conduct Event Analyses (investigations) and facilitate the integration of Corrective and Preventive Actions (CAPAs) when EHS events occur.

  • Ensure workers and visitors receive site orientations.

  • Perform Audits/Inspections at required intervals (Monthly/Periodic/Annual).

  • Facilitate effective daily and weekly Site Safety Meetings / Group Discussions that are relevant to the hazards personnel are exposed to in order to build a Fair, Reporting & Learning culture.

  • Assist site leadership in ensuring GE contractor entities are approved to execute their Work Scope, their work hours are collected, and their activities have been appropriately risk assessed.

Required Qualifications:

  • Must meet one of the following:

  • Minimum 3 years of direct, full time EHS experience in EHS OR general industry

  • College degree from an accredited university/college in occupational safety and health (minimum bachelor’s degree).

  • BCSP Certification (ASP, CSP, CIH, CHST) or equivalent.

  • Valid (up to date) OSHA #500 Trainer Course in Occupational Safety and Health Standards for the Construction Industry OR OSHA #501 Trainer Course in Occupational Safety and Health Standards for the Construction Industry.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Willing/able to travel within North America 50-65% of the time.

  • Must have and maintain the physical ability to work and climb tower heights of 300 ft. or more on a regular basis and perform permit-required confined space entry.

  • Must be capable of using turbine fall protection systems, including maintaining weight for such systems to be effective: maximum personal weight limit of 250 lbs.

  • Must either possess working knowledge OR be capable of developing competency in each of the following EHS disciplines:

  • Event Analyses (investigations) and execution of event management programs.

  • NFPA 70E standards, OSHA Electrical Safety standards and execution of Electrical Safety programs.

  • Energy Isolation / Lockout Tagout (LOTO) regulations and execution of LOTO programs.

  • Work at Heights, Fall Protection and Rescue regulations and execution of Work at Heights programs.

  • Crane, Rigging & Lifting regulations, and execution of crane, rigging and lifting programs.

  • Industrial Mobile Equipment, Trenching & Excavation regulations, and execution of such programs.

Desired Characteristics:

  • College degree from an accredited university/college in occupational safety and health (minimum bachelor’s degree) OR BCSP Certification (ASP, CSP, CIH, CHST, or equivalent).

  • Willing to travel domestically and internationally (North America) 65% of the time.

  • Formally trained in how to perform Event Analysis / Incident Investigations in a recognized investigation methodology (i.e., Taproot, Apollo).

  • Possesses valid AHA First Aid, CPR & AED Trainer certification.

  • Possesses valid Tech Safety Lines (TSL) Trainer certification.

  • Willing to work in range of environments to include but not limited to industrial facilities, manufacturing facilities, and power industry facilities.

The salary range for this position is $77,900.00 - $116,900.00 USD Annual. The specific salary offered to a candidate may be influenced by a variety of factors including the candidate’s experience, their education, and the work location.
