Senior Director User Experience

Location: US (Hybrid/ Office/ Remote)

Position Summary

At Bentley we serve many different types of customers with a varied range of highly specialized B2B software products of different types (desktop, web-based, mobile).

Reporting to the Head of UX, the Senior Director of UX Research and Insights will be responsible for the orchestration and optimization of people, processes, and craft to amplify the value and impact of research and insights across the product organization. This role will lead and expand UX Research capabilities.

The successful candidate will have prior experience leading complex product design teams, be very well versed in modern-day discovery, validation, and development practices and overall be an experienced leader who is passionate and thrives in communication, persuasion, and collaboration. We encourage product teams to fully embrace an empowered team’s model by which Product Design, Development and Product Management all work together towards achieving their shared goal of building the right products for our users.

Responsibilities

  • Define the scope of service of UX Research and Insights to enable a sustainable, higher level research practice.

  • Inspire research and discovery methods across the product organization.

  • Foster a culture of team involvement in user research, team analysis and design rationale.

  • Head up all research related initiatives and collaborate with product teams and other UX designers to perform in depth analysis to provide insightful, 360-degree observations about user behavior by integrating insights from a wide variety of sources turning them into a model, framework, flows and/or wireframes.

  • Lead Generative research efforts to unearth opportunities for innovation and enable product teams to venture beyond pre-existing assumptions.

  • Advocate appropriate research strategies and create best practices.

  • Identify, implement, and optimize effective toolsets, platforms and spaces for User Research and Insights.

  • Ensure effective governance of research and participant management.

  • Enable easy and seamless access to relevant research and insights across Bentley with the goal of ensuring that research is effectively collected and synthesized and findable and accessible.

  • Enable teams across Bentley with Personas, Journey Maps, and other research artifacts to enable re-use.

  • Partner with Sales, Marketing, Support and User Success to ensure that user insights are captured and shared across all the touchpoints our users have with Bentley.

  • Support cross-functional efforts and model collaboration behaviors.

  • Ensure cohesive research practices across product teams.

  • Champion work methods that favor fast iteration, deep user research, and broad experimentation while always keeping business value top of mind.

  • Be a leader and role model of an empowered way of working closely together with Development and Product Management.

  • Create a culture of inspiration, insight, and authority based on modern practices by leveraging quantitative and qualitative data.

  • Use proven data gathering and analysis techniques.

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, And Experience

  • At least 10 years of experience designing enterprise software products.

  • At least 10 years of experience as an executive leader in the software industry.

  • Dynamic leader with a proven track record of delivering results within a diverse software company.

  • In-depth knowledge of human-centered design practices, research methodologies, and design tools.

  • Experience balancing process and productivity with craft and creative explorations. Emphasis on early prototyping, iterative cycles, and learning.

  • Ability to bring forward quantitative and qualitative data into the design process.

  • Experience leading Empowered Product Teams; used to working closely with both Product Management and Development teams, leveraging modern Discovery techniques to create great products.

  • A coaching mindset, used to influence and support others on product design topics.

  • Demonstrate strategies for organizational planning and approaches to strengthen team capacity.

  • Excellent presentation, communication, and networking skills.

  • Strong organization skills, disciplined, detail-oriented methodology with commercial acumen.

  • Drives results: thinks and acts strategically, leads and communicates effectively in all directions, and drives measurable results. Delivers on commitments. Makes timely decisions when a quick response is required and makes tough business decisions based on the facts of the case.

  • Ability to work well under pressure; demonstrates flexibility and the ability to adapt to a fast-moving, and often dynamic environment; Comfortable dealing with ambiguity and making decisions with incomplete information.

  • Hands-on approach.

  • Strong customer focus.

  • Experience leading large and geographically dispersed teams, leveraging technology and asynchronous work methods to enable seamless collaboration.

  • Requires sitting or standing at will while performing work on a computer (or any other physical requirements). The role requires communication with managers, peers and other colleagues of the company in person, and by utilizing Microsoft Teams chat, calling and meeting functions.

  • This role requires infrequent travel to a Bentley office location
