Microsoft’s Azure Data engineering team is leading the transformation of analytics in the world of data with products like databases, data integration, big data analytics, messaging & real-time analytics, and business intelligence. ​​Within Azure Data, the databases team builds and maintains Microsoft's operational Database systems. We store and manage data in a structured way to enable multitude of applications across various industries. We are on a journey to enable developer friendly, mission-critical, AI enabled operational Databases across relational, non-relational and OSS offerings.​

This is an opportunity to work with some of the best engineers in the industry to build a scalable service with all the security feature customer can leverage, this includes Authorization and Authentication, Encryption at Rest, Permission Management, Data Governance to mention a few. The challenges span the entire stack of cloud technology – compute, storage, and network. We work with teams across Azure to enable and empower our customers to deliver the most secure feature.

Responsibilities

As a Software Engineer II you will be responsible for:

  • Design and implement new security features for SQL databases.

  • Conduct thorough code reviews and perform QA testing for security.

  • Implement and maintain measures to harden database systems.

  • Investigate and resolve security incidents, provide timely support.

  • Ensure compliance with industry standards and enforce security policies.

  • Optimize security features to minimize performance impact.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, communicate technical concepts effectively.

  • Contribute to process improvement and propose enhancements.

  • Stay informed on industry trends, contribute to R&D efforts.

Qualifications

Required/Minimum Qualifications

  • ​​Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 2+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python

  • OR equivalent experience.​

Other Requirements

  • Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check:

  • This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred/Additional Qualifications

  • ​​Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 4+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python

  • OR Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 2+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python

  • OR equivalent experience.

Software Engineering IC3 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $94,300 - $182,600 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $120,900 - $198,600 per year.
