Microsoft’s Azure Data engineering team is leading the transformation of analytics in the world of data with products like databases, data integration, big data analytics, messaging & real-time analytics, and business intelligence. ​​Within Azure Data, the databases team builds and maintains Microsoft's operational Database systems. We store and manage data in a structured way to enable multitude of applications across various industries. We are on a journey to enable developer friendly, mission-critical, AI enabled operational Databases across relational, non-relational and operational support system offerings.​

​​The SQL Server team is hiring a Senior Software Engineer that is excited about creating and operating AI-powered services to empower database administrators and developers to more efficiently operate SQL Server database instances on any infrastructure - in Azure, on-premises, or other clouds. SQL Server is an industry-leading enterprise data platform used by organizations big and small all over the world for workloads ranging from departmental applications to mission critical systems in every industry. As the era of AI emerges, SQL Server is positioned to enable data scientists, application developers, and database administrators to harness the intelligence of ever-growing datasets, but only if they can effectively scale and maintain the volume, variety, and velocity of data being generated in our modern world. Responsibilities

As part of a newly formed SecOps team, you will be part of a "Center of Excellence" team for the broader organization to provide vision and an execution framework to fulfill Microsoft's Secure Future Initiative for SQL Server. Key responsibilities include:

  • Continuous research and training on security best practices that can be applied to our product portfolio.

  • Creating and following through on detailed execution plans across the broader team to implement these best practices.

  • Implementing security and operations improvements in our services.

  • Creating a culture of "security above all else" within the team.​

Qualifications

Required/Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, or related technical discipline AND 4+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python

  • OR equivalent experience​

  • 1+ years experience in security, operations or Site Reliability Engineering

Other Requirements

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check:

  • This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred/Additional Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 8+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python

  • OR Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 6+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python

  • OR equivalent experience.

  • Experience conducting retrospective debugging of solutions to identify root causes of problems.

  • Experience applying best practices to reliably build code that is based on well-established methods while also applying best practices for new code development

Software Engineering IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $117,200 - $229,200 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $153,600 - $250,200 per year.
