The Artificial Intelligence (AI) Platform organization at Microsoft builds the end-to-end Azure AI stack and is core to Azure’s innovation and differentiation, as well as all of Microsoft’s flagship products, from Office to Teams, to Xbox. Within AI Platform, the Azure ML team enables data scientists and developers to quickly and easily build, train, deploy, manage, and consume machine learning models.

Azure Machine Learning is at the center of Microsoft’s AI revolution as the world moves towards integrating Artificial Intelligence through Large Language Models (LLMs) into services and applications that impacts millions of people in their day-to-day lives. As a Senior Software Engineer on the Azure ML Back Plane team, you will build and expand the Azure AI Resource Provider and its associated backend infrastructure services. You will design and implement Azure Application Programming Interfaces (APIs) to empower application developers to leverage Azure AI resources to build next-gen Copilot applications, including LLMs from both OpenAI and Open-Source communities.

You will deliver service capabilities to improve user experience on resource management and empower enterprise IT administrators to effectively manage their Azure AI resources to meet compliance, governance and cost requirements. Additionally, you will also contribute to strengthen service quality and expand the services to all Azure regions and clouds. Responsibilities

  • Design and implement the Azure AI Resource Provider (RP) service, in accordance with Azure Resource Manager(Azure ARM’s) RP protocols. Improve service scalability and resilience to produce a highly available and scalable Resource Provider solution.

  • Design and implement billing and cost management infrastructure that can quickly adapt to new business models and provide accurate cost reporting back to customers.

  • Design and implement service infrastructure to support service expansion in regions and clouds; strategize and codify resource management to meet customer demand.

  • Design and implement features that empower enterprise information technology (IT) admins to meet security and compliance requirements when building AI solutions on Azure.

  • Use data-driven and machine learning approaches to build quality and operational insights; leverage insights to drive quality and operational excellence across pre and post- production pipelines.

Qualifications

Required/Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, or related technical discipline AND 4+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java,

  • OR equivalent experience.

  • 4+ years of experience with coding in C#, Java, C or C++.

  • 4+ years of experience building and shipping production software or services.

  • Experience with improving service operations or engineering fundamentals.

Other Requirements:

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:

  • Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred/Additional Qualifications:

  • Proven ability to create componentized and well-architected software.

  • Prior experience in building large scale cloud services, distributed systems, or operating systems.

  • Experience with improving service operations or engineering fundamentals.

Software Engineering IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $112,000 - $218,400 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $145,800 - $238,600 per year.
