Amazon Senior Finance Manager, Project Kuiper in Redmond, Washington

Are you ready to get in on the ground floor of Project Kuiper, Amazon’s long-term initiative to design, launch, and maintain a constellation of Low Earth Orbit satellites to provide low-latency, high-speed broadband connectivity to unserved and underserved communities worldwide?

It’s Day 1 for Amazon’s next billion-dollar business, and we are looking for an entrepreneurial-minded Senior Finance Manager (SFM) to lead the Satellite Manufacturing and Quality Finance team. The position requires a strategic thinker with strong backbone to influence multiple senior business partners across manufacturing operations.

The candidate must operate successfully in a fast-paced, global and results-oriented environment. The successful candidate will lead an initial team of 3 Finance Managers responsible for the bring up, controllership and analysis of Kuiper’s satellite manufacturing operations. The leader needs to look beyond the current year model and work closely with the Director of Manufacturing in establishing processes and metrics to support growth and introduction of new products.

Key job responsibilities

  • Creating the costing methodology and cost assignment process for the initial satellite constellation. Needs to build strong relationships with accounting, tax, business and IT, and utilize expertise and high judgment to arrive at a long-term scalable solution. Owns the finance related items in the satellite manufacturing business requirement document and SAP ERP implementation. The SFM must have strong industry knowledge and understanding of financial interdependencies of systems (SAP/Oracle OFA) and alignment with GAAP.

  • Owning the satellite unit cost that includes sourcing, manufacturing, storage, transportation, payload processing, and launch. The SFM will partner with Procurement, Logistics, and Launch Operations finance teams to consolidate information and update Finance and Business leadership. This role is responsible for helping create and ensuring that the costs meet the appropriate guardrails set up in the operational plans.

  • Maintaining controllership and financial integrity for satellite manufacturing. Leads the implementation of efficiency and productivity controls for the production line, finalization of productivity metrics for variable headcount, and establishment of Key Performance Indicators. The leader must leverage these processes to empower the finance team to engage with the business to optimize processes and monetize opportunities. The leader will partner with the Director of Manufacturing on MBRs to the VP of Production Operations.

  • Lead accounting automation initiatives to improve controllership. This requires a clear understanding of business requirements that include creating a capex rate card and aligning bill of materials bulk buys with target unit cost.

Basic Qualifications

  • 10+ years of finance or a related analytical field experience

  • 10+ years of identifying, leading, and executing opportunities to improve, automate, standardize or simplify finance or business tools and processes experience

  • 8+ years of applying key financial performance indicators (KPIs) to analyses experience

  • Experience in creating process improvements with automation and analysis

  • Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting or related field

  • Export Control Requirement: Due to applicable export control laws and regulations, candidates must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (i.e., current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 8+ years of participating in continuous improvement projects in your team to scale and improve controllership with measurable results experience

  • 5+ years of hiring, leading and developing teams experience

  • 5+ years of working with senior staff (e.g. c-suite) experience

  • Experience working in a fast-paced environment similar to a high-tech start-up

  • MBA, or CPA

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $122,400/year in our lowest geographic market up to $227,700/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
