We are seeking a highly qualified candidate to join the team as a Focused LAB Support Hardware Engineer. As a Focused LAB Support Hardware Engineer within the Azure SES and Cloud Hardware Infrastructure Engineering (SCHIE) team, you will support innovative projects and apply your expertise in a fast paced & technically driven environment. You will work with a diverse set of teams supporting first and third-party designs in an R&D Lab environment, ensuring that lab operations are optimized and tuned to perform in a complex environment while continuing to scale space, capacity, and capability.

Responsibilities

  • Support various project needs like hardware, racks, networks, infrastructure, racking systems, and power distribution.

  • Support server racks, network connections, and infrastructure problems, maintenance, and management.

  • Support OS updates, Firmware upgrades (in-band or out-of-band)

  • Support liquid cooling solutions and monitoring

  • Escalates and/or seeks guidance from experienced technicians or direct-line management regarding client interactions.

  • Maintains an awareness of Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) through reporting dashboards, systems, for personal monthly performance discussions as needed.

  • Develops a comprehensive understanding of cross-functional programs processes to support partnerships with internal and external stakeholders.

  • Completes required training aligned to job focus areas and workloads (i.e., Break fix, Deployment, Simple Change, Decommission, IT Critical Environment) in a timely manner per direct-line management assignment(s).

  • Actively mentors and supports training of other technicians through on-the-job training (OJT) and by providing direct guidance on specific job focus areas and workloads.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • 7+ years of technical engineering experience

  • OR Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field AND 5+ years of technical engineering experience

  • OR Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field AND 3+ years of technical engineering experience

  • OR Doctorate degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field.

Other Requirements

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in Technical operations related to Server System architecture that includes server functionality, network requirements, management, mechanical, electrical specification application, software & firmware application in engineering labs or datacenter environments and/or data center operations.

  • Experience Liquid loop preparing and assembly

  • Familiarity with core routing, switching functions and LAN technologies.

  • Experience with Linux command line operations, scripting languages such as PowerShell, installs, configures, and support of Operating Systems that includes both Linux and Windows. 

  • Troubleshooting system hardware errors and fixing issues.

  • Rack and stack of servers and kit to cabinets.

  • Physical installation and/or removal of equipment within the Data Center or Intermediary Data Facilities.

  • Background with system level qualification, validation, I/O interconnect, PCIE high speed data switches.

  • Solve and support projects (OU creation / Group Policy / MECM / Image builds / Maintenance Automation / Monitoring Automation, Debug and Solutions.

  • Experience with VM manipulation and PowerShell scripting

  • Experience with lab test equipment setups for signal measurement using oscilloscopes and the capability to read and interpret schematic diagrams.

  • Good written and verbal communication & organization skills.

  • Ability to work well independently and on a team. A collaborative spirit and a growth mindset.

  • Motivated to continuously learn and improve existing solutions.

Hardware Engineering IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $117,200 - $229,200 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $153,600 - $250,200 per year.
