Microsoft Corporation Director of Strategic Sourcing in Redmond, Washington

Microsoft’s Cloud business is experiencing explosive growth, and the Cloud Supply Chain (CSCP) organization is responsible for enabling the infrastructure underlying this growth. CSCP is responsible for strategic sourcing, customer demand forecasting, capacity planning and management, supply chain planning and execution, capacity provisioning, and decommissioning and dispositioning of datacenter assets worldwide.

Cloud Sourcing, Spares, Sustainability & Security (CS4) organization within CSCP manages sourcing and supply of IT hardware for the data centers. Well-defined and executed sourcing and supply chain management ensures reliable on-time performance, optimized cost, prevents urgent and unplanned investments, and provides accurate and timely information across the supply base and internally across the infrastructure organization. Our focus is on smart growth, high efficiency, and delivering a trusted experience to customers and partners worldwide. We are looking for an experienced Director of Strategic Sourcing supply chain professional to help build sustainable advantages through the supply chain.

Responsibilities

The role of Director Strategic Sourcing will focus on the following key areas:

  • Manage team of SSMs focused on delivering best in class Cloud Infrastructure

  • Early engagement with our suppliers, network architecture and engineering teams to identify optimization opportunities and drive product solutions around design for availability and TCO.

  • Establishment of appropriate sourcing strategy with relevant partners to drive long-term goals of Technology Adoption, COS (Continuity of Supply), cost, Quality, Business Health and Sustainability

  • Found and deliver supplier relationship management strategies tuned to each supplier.

  • Drive selection process through analysis of supplier capabilities.

  • Provide thought leadership and manage strategic initiatives with internal stakeholders and suppliers to support cloud supply chain objectives and strategies

Sourcing Management:

  • Engage with cross- functional leadership including Network architecture, engineering, quality, and business teams to determine best design solution and supply base to deliver that solution at optimal SC, COS, and cost.

  • Own the Datacenter Switch technical sourcing strategy, partnering with product engineering teams on high visibility technology developments and delivery of innovative solutions

  • Lead industry initiatives and innovate on business models to deliver best in cloud solutions

  • Define RFQ / RFP activities and conduct negotiations with suppliers.

  • Manage contracting activities with Legal and ensure contracts reflect appropriate business terms, IP protection, etc. Cost and operations management

  • Build multi-sourcing strategies to mitigate risk and drive appropriate competition. o

  • Identify cost reduction opportunities and drive supplier competition with cost modelling and other sourcing tools.

  • Run weekly, monthly, quarter review with team on cost and operations KPIs o Continuous improvement of all critical areas around supply, mfg., cost, etc. Manage supplier performance and compliance o Develop and enable new suppliers

  • Ensure supplier compliance with MSFT security and social responsibility requirements

  • Conduct Executive Business Review discussions

  • Ensure on time supplier delivery of corrective actions from business review / audits

  • Support and meet business cost metrics through the development process

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business, Supply Chain Management, Engineering, Materials Science, or related field AND 8+ years experience in procurement, supply chain, sourcing, engineering, operations, or relevant sales-related roles

  • OR Master's Degree in Business, Supply Chain Management, Engineering, Materials Science, or related field AND 6+ years experience in procurement, supply chain, sourcing, engineering, operations, or relevant sales-related roles o OR equivalent experience.

  • Experience in networking hardware

Other Requirements:

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 10+ years experiences in procurement, supply chain, and/or operations

  • Experience in leading cross functional teams

  • Experience in Datacenter Switching hardware and software

  • Engineering/ technical background

  • Cloud / high tech supply chain experience

  • Extensive knowledge in hardware sourcing and supply chain

  • Demonstrated track record in supplier negotiation and management

  • Good influencing skills and ability to build lasting relationships across multiple layers in the organization

Sourcing Engineering M5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $137,600 - $267,000 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $180,400 - $294,000 per year.
