ABOUT THE ROLE

As a CBRE Building Engineer (Remote Operations Center) is an engineering hybrid that exercises skills across many domains including: Mechanical, Electrical, Electronic, and IT. They monitor, document, log and troubleshoot a wide variety of industrial instrumentation mechanical equipment, electronic monitoring, metering, controlling and signaling devices used in the operation of Building Automation Systems and Critical Environments. They command and control complex HVAC, lighting and mechanical systems. They must have a basic understanding of these types of systems.

  • Must be comfortable working overnight (6PM - 6AM)

  • Schedule / 14 day rotation & weekends (required)

WHAT YOU'LL DO:

  • Utilize multiple building automation platforms

  • Remote monitoring of building management systems

  • Respond to an alarm that is triggered by building management systems, diagnose root cause of the issues and dispatch a technician or engineer as needed.

  • Make adjustments or changes in the operations of equipment via building management system.

  • Take appropriate actions during escalating or cascading events by following standard operating procedures.

  • Log and document events and create a history or timeline of events over the course of your shift.

  • Be able to make technical and administrative decisions on the fly based on the circumstances and operating procedures established.

  • Assess performance of mechanical/electrical systems and make any adjustments to improve its performance.

  • Apply in-depth knowledge of standard principles and techniques/procedures to accomplish complex assignments and provide innovative solutions.

  • Coach others and share in-depth knowledge of own job discipline and broad knowledge of several job disciplines within the function.

  • Lead by example and model behaviors that are consistent with CBRE RISE values.

  • Work to build consensus and convince others to reach an agreement.

  • Impact a range of customer, operational, project or service activities within own team and other related teams.

  • Work within broad guidelines and policies.

  • Explain difficult or sensitive information.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Mechanical understanding of equipment operated such as Chillers, Cooling Towers, Pumps, Air Handling Units, and Terminal Cooling Units.

  2. Fluid Dynamics and Heat Transfer Fundamentals.

  3. Ability to respond to dynamic system faults and casualties and maintain Critical Environments.

  4. Proper escalation and management of casualty events.

  5. Demonstrate extensive knowledge of energy conservation guidelines.

  6. Understand and demonstrate the ability to review equipment for optimum energy strategies.

  7. Setup and troubleshooting of current Microsoft OS and Office environments.

  8. Ability to interpret complex system reports and analyze for optimum performance.

  9. Support Mechanical Technicians on system repair/operation.

  10. Train Mechanical Technicians on control system operation.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

No formal supervisory responsibilities in this position. May provide informal assistance such as technical guidance and/or training to coworkers. May coordinate work and assign tasks.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

Perform general preventive maintenance and corrective repair:

  • Mechanical, Electrical, Electronic, and I.T. (Information Technology)

  • Building Automation Systems and Critical Environments

WHAT YOU'LL NEED

Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States without the need for visa sponsorship now or in the future.

Education and Experience

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED)

  • Minimum of four years of related experience and/or trade school training.

  • Engineering experience that focuses on Electrical, Electronic, Mechanical and Information Technology

  • Business Management Systems

CERTIFICATES and/or LICENSES

Universal EPA certification preferred. Additional certification in one or more of the following: electrical, mechanical, HVAC and refrigeration systems, process controls, mechanical power transmissions, painting, plumbing, carpentry or engine repair. Certifications/licenses as may be required by local or state jurisdictions.

OTHER SKILLS and/or ABILITIES

Meet the physical requirements of this role including stooping, standing, walking, climbing stairs/ladders, and the ability to lift/carry heavy loads of 50 lbs. or more.

Understanding of existing procedures and standards to solve slightly complex problems.

Ability to analyze possible solutions using technical experience to apply appropriate judgment and precedents.

Strong organizational skills with an inquisitive mindset.

In-depth knowledge of Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.)

CBRE carefully considers multiple factors to determine compensation, including a candidate’s education, training and experience. The salary range is $35 - $36 per hour. The compensation offered to a successful candidate will depend on the candidate’s skills, qualifications and experience.
