What Is the Opportunity?
Travelers has big ambitions! We are looking for a qualified lawyer to be responsible for the production and maintenance of Travelers’ wordings across Bond and Speciality. Using your previous coverage, litigation or wordings experience you will design and implement a framework for wording portfolio management which encompasses assessment, analysis, completion and strategic maintenance and innovation of Travelers wordings. You will ensure that the suite of policy wordings are contemporary, market leading and, at all times, customer centric. In this role you will work alongside product leads, distribution, legal, claim, underwriting, compliance and IT functions as part of the assessment, recommendation and implementation process for updating coverage in response to identified trends, legislation and regulations.
Travelers Europe currently offers flexibility to employees who wish to work on a hybrid basis in accordance with our Hybrid Work Arrangements Policy. This entails full time employees working three days a week in the office and two days at home (or pro rata for part-time employees). This policy may be changed at the Company’s discretion.
This role is eligible for a £2,500 new joiner bonus. If you are successfully referred by an employee at Travelers Europe, both you and the person who referred you could be eligible for this bonus.
What Will You Do?
Advise, manage and support policy wording development and control, across all lines of business ensuring that Travelers' model wordings are regularly reviewed, legally compliant and remain robust, relevant, accurately drafted and customer centric.
Ensure consistent drafting conventions and version control for all Travelers Europe model wordings and maintain oversight, control and acceptability (to TRV) on Broker/MGA/DUA wordings.
Ensure forms for certain segments of trade are compliant with appropriate regulatory rules – e.g. Solicitors’/PFI/Contract Works minimum terms and conditions.
Work with IT to ensure that systems support is available for Wording and Endorsement changes and that such work is executed within agreed time frames.This includes overseeing testing, and entering wordings and clauses into IT applications.
Investigate and advise on general coverage matters – e.g. Insurance Act; Brexit continuity clauses etc and work with Legal and Compliance to update the business (& ensure the wordings & UW guidance is up to date) on any regulatory, legislative or case law developments that impact underwriting. Lead the drafting of resultant language and underwriting guidance.
Liaise with US colleagues in respect of emerging issues, corporate underwriting stance, coverage and product development.
Design, build and populate a library for all agreed coverages (to include TRV own and TP policy forms).
Manage workloads within the wordings team to ensure priorities are dealt with in a timely manner.
Ensure that project plans are in place and accurately recorded, maintained and achieved, relating to all policy development.
Deliver ‘technical wording’ training to underwriters on an ongoing basis in conjunction with and support of Distribution.
Ensure commonality where appropriate, between the monoline products and any other associated propositions where those mono line products have been incorporated.
Maintain the Travelers Europe Wording compendium.
Represent TRV with ABI, LMA, CII, BIBA and AIRMIC at policy wording forums and ensure that trends identified by this group are taken to TRV and appropriate stakeholders are engaged.

What Will Our Ideal Candidate Have?
Educated to degree or equivalent standard preferred.
Thorough knowledge of London or Company insurance market preferably with some in-house experience working within the Company or Lloyd’s market including the London Market Association and the Non Marine Association and MRC structures.
Awareness of Delegated Authority/ Consortia structure Minimum Standards required.
Expert level market wording knowledge in at least one line of business and good knowledge in all other lines of business.
Research and analysis - Proven research, analytical and drafting skills with the ability to deliver coverage analysis and provision of legal advice on complex underwriting matters.
Project management and excellent organisational skills.
Communication and interpersonal skills - capable of providing precise and focused advice for senior management and stakeholders and able to influence these parties accordingly and lead the collaboration within a matrix organisation.
Legal – Experience in policy drafting.
Delegation – Able to delegate effectively within a matrix organisation.
Instructor/Coach/Teacher: Able to develop others, within both matrix and team, to build technical knowledge within TRV and succession in own role.
Negotiation – Able to collaborate, influence and achieve final decisions relating to both timing and content of any wording refresh/launch/production.
What is a Must Have?
Comprehensive knowledge of Property, Liability and Financial Lines Business (Professional Indemnity, Directors & Officers and Financial Institutions) coverage required.
Ability to draft wordings and able to converse with and understand the requirements around broker wordings and their expectations.
Experience of managing a team and ability to manage stakeholders.
