The career opportunities are endless..

WHAT IS AN INTERNSHIP?

A one-year rotating internship offers the opportunity to work within a state-of-the-art referral practice, developing your clinical skills and knowledge by working alongside world-renowned specialists.

Following an induction period, interns rotate through the various core and elective disciplines that can include:

  • Internal Medicine

  • Soft tissue surgery

  • Orthopaedics

  • Anaesthesia

  • Emergency and critical care

  • Neurology

  • Oncology

  • Radiation oncology

  • Cardiology

  • Ophthalmology

  • Diagnostic imaging

  • Dentistry

A discipline specific internship is a one-year training post in a particular specialism. It’s a chance to significantly develop, both clinically and professionally, by working closely with and learning from specialists and residents in your chosen field. It is usually a bridge between rotating internship and residency posts but is not an essential step in speciality training.

WHY SHOULD YOU CHOOSE A LINNAEUS INTERNSHIP?

Our rotating internship programmes are structured with a thorough induction, ongoing support and a handbook to help you find your way when you start. You will learn an incredible amount from the cases you see as part of your clinical rotations and regular seminars within the practice.

We also bring our rotating interns together for regular teaching sessions across the group. There’s a programme of clinical reasoning rounds run by our Specialists, professional skills and wellbeing training, our diagnostic imaging specialists also deliver monthly intern imaging rounds and our clinical research team run a year-long course of monthly research training.

Rotating interns attend an annual training day with clinical seminars and a career development workshop including sessions on writing CVs, covering letters and interview techniques.

All rotating interns also receive RECOVER online basic and advanced life support training.

MENTORING AND SUPPORT

All interns are mentored by a senior member of the clinical team within the practice who has received mentor training. Rotating interns have monthly meetings with their mentor based around the internship workbook that guides them in the creation of a personal development plan and reflection on their progress throughout the programme.

Interns are further supported by the Internship Director in their practice, the Linnaeus Internship and Residency Manager and our Central Support Team who check in with the intern teams regularly during the programme and are available for advice and support.

HOW WILL YOU BENEFIT?

We are passionate about enabling you to develop yourself and your career. In 2023, 78% of our rotating interns who were seeking specialist track training progressed straight into a discipline-specific internship or residency and 81% of our discipline-specific interns achieved residencies directly out of their internship programme within Linnaeus or in academic or private practice roles elsewhere in the UK and USA. There are more opportunities to progress into residency training posts in Linnaeus than any other organisation in the UK.
