Reporting Relationship:Corps Officers

Salary and Grade: $15.50–17.50/Hr. (depending on experience)

    Position Overview:

    The Salvation Army in Reading, Pennsylvania, is looking for a Youth Ministry Coordinator whose overall responsibility/oversight is the multiple programs within the Learning Center Department.

Responsibilities

Description of Position:

  • Oversee Learning Center staff and volunteers, providing guidance and working with Corps Officers regarding any concerns.

  • Recruit, train, and schedule volunteers/tutors to assist with various program components.

  • Provide creative programming for after-school programs using resources (gym, computer lab, craft area, etc.).

  • Plan and delegate instructions to Youth Workers/Aides assigning tasks as needed.

  • Evaluate, track and report student progress as directed per funder requirements.

  • Promote, recruit, and enroll children for The Salvation Army summer camp (Ladore) and the Summer Day Camp program.

  • Maintain individual student files and accurately report statistics as required on Service Point.

  • Collaborate with schools, community agencies, staff, and officers to develop creative programs to meet community needs.

  • Ensure a safe and clean environment within the Learning Center.

  • Make contact with parents as needed.

  • Coordinate with Corps Officers and Social Services Department to address additional student needs.

  • Deliver Salvation Army's Christian, Bible-based curriculum and lead programs for youth (Sun Beams, Girl Guards, etc.)

  • Assist in providing transportation as needed for the various programs when needed.

  • Maintain open lines of communication to facilitate efficient service delivery.

  • Work with Corps Officers and others to develop and maintain a specific departmental "Policies and Procedures" manual.

  • Must be a detail-oriented, logical thinker, motivated self-starter, and able to work independently.

  • Performs related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • Associate's Degree in Education or related field with 3-5 years of experience.

  • Formal education or experience in Early Childhood Education is desirable.

  • Practical oral and written communication skills. Being bilingual is a plus.

  • Exceptional time management and organizational skills are essential.

  • Computer competency to meet the needs of the programs/administration (MS Office, Internet, etc.)

  • Must be flexible and adapt to the program's changing needs.

  • Must have a valid PA driver's license.

  • Child Protection Clearances PA Act 153 requires that all prospective employees complete the following clearance and background checks: PA Child Abuse History Clearance, PA State Police Criminal Record Check, and FBI Criminal Record/Fingerprint Check.

  • As a mandated reporter, the Applicant must:

  • Pass background checks required by PA Act 153

  • PA State Police Criminal Record Check.

  • FBI criminal record check (fingerprinting may be required).

  • Child abuse background check.

  • Successfully completed mandated reporter training on recognizing and reporting child abuse and Salvation Army KeepSAfe training within 30 days of employment.

  • Must have an understanding of and support for the Mission of The Salvation Army.
