Position Description

Legrand has an exciting opportunity for aField Service Engineerto join theData Center Power & Control Division Starline Team.Position isUK based with travel throughout Europe.The Field Service Engineer role will require a highly qualified individual to perform service work on Starline’s full complement of products at customer sites. The Engineer will work directly with quality assurance, end users, contractors and sales to ensure that all on-site products are functioning properly and tested prior to system energization. Must be willing and able to travel throughout Europe often.

What Will You Do?

Schedule and coordinate service calls with end users and contractors.

  • Assist Sales in quoting services and educating on the types of services offered.

  • Provide Project Management support for installations.

  • Execute a System Startup checklist while at a customer site.

  • Program Starline CPM and 3rdparty meters at the customer site. Troubleshoot issues with networking, connectivity and hardware related to meters if applicable.

  • Complete a startup certification report and a meter commissioning report. In each case, technician will be given a template to work from and required to enter data into appropriate fields.

  • Travel to customer sites and give installation training presentations using both Power Point presentations and with hands-on demonstrations.

  • Interact well with customers on the job site.

  • Obtain a Level 1 Thermography Certification in order to IR scan energized Busway components as part of routine service visits. Complete associated thermography reports.

  • Perform load bank and commissioning services on Starline Busway.

  • Diagnose and repair on-site issues as required by end-users and contractors.

  • Train and mentor internal and 3rdparty technicians related to on-site services.

  • Suggest new services identified in the marketplace through customer and contractor interaction and present ideas to management.

  • Identify and specify required testing equipment for new or existing on-site services to create efficiency gains or to increase depth of testing.

  • Periodically rework customer units at the factory or on-site when needed.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Engineering degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or equivalent.

  • Currently working as a field service technician with Starline or similar company.

  • Three years of experience working in field service.

  • Proficient experience with Microsoft Office and Windows.

  • Valid Driver’s License.

  • Ability to rent a vehicle.

  • Ability to obtain government mandated security clearances.

  • Valid Passport can travel unrestricted on their passport.

  • Experience using power and electrical testing tools and equipment.

  • Advanced knowledge and experience working on electrical components and meters.

  • Willingness to complete mandated training and certification programs.

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Superior attention to detail.

  • Must be able to effectively communicate with customers verbally and in writing.

  • Basic MS Windows/MS Office experience – Word, Excel and Outlook in particular.

  • Service Oriented, actively looking for ways to help others.

  • Excellent critical thinking skills where you are able to use logic and reasoning to identify on-site product issues.

  • Product knowledge and familiarity with Starline Busway.

  • Ability to present yourself professionally as a Starline representative, must act and dress the part. Tardiness to job sites, inappropriate or improper dress or any form of disrespect while on the job site will not be tolerated.

  • Ability to travel, both on an airplane as well as in a rental or personal vehicle to customer sites.

  • Must be willing to make overnight trips, staying in one location for up to four consecutive nights, or longer on a rare occasion.

  • Willingness and desire to train and support both internal technicians as well as on-site customers, electricians, contractors and end users.

    Working Conditions/Physical Requirements

  • Work performed at customer sites may be on active constructions sites, which will require, under certain areas; the use of personal protective equipment such as safety glasses, specific footwear, mandatory hearing protection and electrical safety clothing as required on a site-by-site basis.

  • Ability to stand for prolonged periods of time.

  • Ability to climb ladders and perform work while standing on a ladder.

  • Ability to lift and carry up to 75 lbs occasionally; ability to lift and carry up to 25 lbs daily.

  • Ability to make precisely coordinated movements of the fingers of one or both hands to grasp, manipulate, or assemble very small objects.

  • The ability to keep hand and arm steady while moving arm or while holding arm and hand in one position.

  • The ability to see details at close range (within a few feet of the observer).

  • Travel up to 75% of the time via car or airplane.

  • Ability to work long hours as needed at customer sites.
