U.S. Army Corps of Engineers MAINTENANCE MECHANIC SUPERVISOR in Raymond, California

Summary About the Position: Serve as Maintenance Mechanic Supervisor over the maintenance crew assigned to the Project, exercising supervisory responsibility for control over work operations involving approximately four to seven subordinate workers. Required to operate flood control structures including sluice gates, tainter gates, motors, pump stations, spillways, etc. Responsibilities Plan distribution of work to subordinates on a day to-day or project-to-project basis within the instructions and time limits provided. Responsible for employee selection and training and development, management-employee relations, equal employment opportunities, alcohol and drug abuse, etc., scheduling and approving leave for subordinates. On a week-to-week basis, plan and coordinate work and establishes priorities and deadlines and sequence of work for individual workers based on methods and policies. Designate workers for the various tasks and assigns work to be performed. Explain work requirements, methods and procedures; instructs subordinates in new procedures and assists when problems arise. Responsible for employee selection and training and development, management-employee relations, i.e., equal employment opportunities, alcohol and drug abuse, etc. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications Who May Apply: US Citizens Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision. Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to lead or supervise. I can perform and direct the performance of maintenance and repair duties on electrical and mechanical equipment, plumbing systems, and carpentry and welding projects in accordance with established trade standards. I have experience at the journeyman level in at least one of the following trades: electrical, mechanical, plumbing and/or carpentry. I have performed administrative duties associated with leadership and facility management such as establishing shop deadlines and priorities, maintaining production reports/records and assigning and evaluating work of staff. Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Uses moderate physical effort to stack, load, unload, move and carry tools, equipment and materials ranging in weight from 10 lbs to 50 lbs unassisted. Occasionally lifts heavier objects with assistance (e.g., using a hand truck). Required to reach, walk, stand, stoop, bend, kneel, crawl and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Occasionally works in cramped quarters, or from ladders, scaffolds or platform Work is performed inside and outside in all types of weather (e.g., heat, cold, rain, wind, etc.) and usually in a dirty, dusty and/or greasy environment. Incumbent is exposed to the possibility of broken bones, electrical shocks, burns, cuts, bruises, maimed fingers and scrapes. Occasionally is required to wear uncomfortable protective clothing. Education Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted. Additional Information Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration. You will be required to provide proof of U.S. Citizenship. One year probationary period may be required. Direct deposit of pay is required.
